I know of Wikipedia, if you pres Esc right when the page loads (and when the regular page appears for a split second) it will prevent it from going “dark”.
One thing the CEO of Twitter stated, which I agree with, is where do you stop? Wikipedia should be a neutral site, rather than politically-engaged, even if its position on the issue is admirable.
I'm against SOPA and can understand the protesting by these sites. But did they have to shut down their sites in protest? A banner or flash screen would get the message across.
I think that by shutting there sites down and asking people to engage their legislators they will get a lot more response than a simple flash or banner ad would.Phid, Wikipedia has never been politically neutral, why should the start now?

As an entity, I don't see Wikipedia to be political. Yes, the people editing articles may drift left, but I consider them to be different from Wikipedia as a whole. To my knowledge, the site has not advocated any other issue like SOPA in its history.
I guess then you don't take Jimmy Wales positions on the issues into account? He is the founder and lead policeman over there and about as far left politically as you can get.
I tried posting some serious stuff on wikipedia several years ago, well before I pulled the Charlemagne stunt and my posts kept geting edited because they were not “neutral” enough. Strangely, I would have said that the edits were mostly so far left of being neutral they couldn't even see it. I eventually got disgusted with the whole thing and started just pulling pranks instead of trying to be serious.
