All I will tell you is that I got through much of but didn't finish reading Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man in college. I thought it started getting a bit leftist but then again I can't be sure about that. But he is considered one of the literary greats in Western Civ.
Just bought Dubliners. If I don't like his short stories, then I probably won't like his novels.Thanks for the tip, Wally. But this lightweight will stick with the Guinness.Phid, leftist, how so?
Is he a hard read? I heard Ulysses is difficult and Finnegans Wake is even more difficult.
Oh gosh, Ulysses...my oldest daughter asked me to help her with this for English this year...I did my best and I absolutely love to read but I found it very, very difficult. With that said, I would like to try reading it again at a much slower pace and maybe with the help of Sparknotes.
