Cullen Montgomery Baker was born in Weakley County Texas in 1835. He is credited as being the first to develop the art of the fast draw. He was given his first pistol at the age of 12 and practiced for hours drawing it from the waist band of his pants. Baker turned outlaw and bully commiting many robberies and murders along the way. During the civil war he was conscripted into the Confederate army but promptly deserted. He was wanted by the union army for gunning down a sargeant and three black soldiers in a saloon in Spanish Bluffs Arkansas. After a short reign of terror Baker was shot and killed January of 1869 by a school teacher at the head of a posse. On his body were found a double barrelled shotgun, four six-shooters, three derringers, and six knives.
