'Industrialized Nations Are Facing CO2 Insolvency' This little piece not only points out the arrogance of the Global Warming alarmists but also provides a good hint of the goals of the post-modernists in general. The guy being interviewed is supposed to be a famous scientist and he very well may be famous in scientific circles. However, the points he makes about climate change and our responsibilities expose his own agenda and how he has bought into the post-modern self loathing that many westerners seem to enjoy wallowing in. This quote is particularly nice:
SPIEGEL ONLINE: So industrialized nations would have to pay massive sums of money? Schellnhuber: Yes. Up to ?100 billion ($142 billion) annually. If the richest sixth of the world's population were to pay this amount, each person would have to pay ?100 per year. The West would give back part of the wealth it has taken from the South in the past centuries and be indebted to countries that are now amongst the poorest in the world. It would, however, have to be ensured that the poorer nations use the money for the proposes it is intended -- namely to help them to develop a greener economy. This would help them to adapt to the more eco-conscious world of the future and would also save the industrialized nations from running into even bigger problems.
I guess we have to save the world because the west has been busy raping everybody else in the world for hundreds of years and since the 3rd world cant get payback for themselves we have to commit ritual societal hara-kiri to atone for our sins if I am getting this guy right. I sometimes think that the post-modern crowd are a bunch of lemmings intent on self destruction and then I relaize that that is an unfair characterization of lemmings. I guess I need to search for a better analogy. To be honest, I dont feel the need to apologize for western success anymore than I felt the need to apologize to losers in school who could not maintain a passing GPA. Neither thing was my fault. I benefit from the success of my ancestors just as my as I benefit from maintaining good grades in school; both are things I should be proud of, not ashamed.I especially like how he says we have to pay them back but then goes on to condescend to this group of apparent savages by saying that we (the west) have to ensure that the money is spent wisely. I assume he means we nned to make sure they buy windmills instead of letting sleazeballs like Chavez, or Nigerian president Umaru Yar'Adua line their pockets with the money.
