ParticipantHasnyone heard of the Repeal Amendment? It basically proposes that if 2/3 of state legislatures vote to reepeal a Federal Law then that law is repealed. The NY Times is against which automatically means I think favorably of it. The Washington Examiner makes a pretty good case that this proposed amendment is a good opportunity to start a national debate on what kind of government We the People want to have in the US. I tend to agree and think it is about high time a serious debate was started. This is the full text of the proposed amendment.
?Any provision of law or regulation of the United States may be repealed by the several states, and such repeal shall be effective when the legislatur?es of two-thirds of the several states approve resolution?s for this purpose that particular?ly describe the same provision or provisions of law or regulation to be repealed."

KeymasterIt's an interesting idea. I bet the NYT has some specific area of policy in mind that they think would be reversed if the Repeal Amendment were to be adopted.

Well, according to the piece in the NYT that I read the editorial boar thinks that as written this amendment would allow the states to actually nullify parts of the constitution. No doubt they have visions of a return of slavery and right-wing reeducation/labor camps for leftists and leftist intellectuals. Hell, they probably think that enough states could get together and force people to attend church and publicly renounce their atheist beliefs or some other version of a modern day Inquisition. Have you ever read anything on Kos? It is amazing what some of the more extreme folks on the left think conservatives would do if they could only get around those pesky freedom fighters called modern day liberals.

I don't know whether to laugh or or try to find out where to point you. I kind of support it too. Reeducation camps seem to have worked tolerably well for quite a while in most communist countries. Of course, eventually they were disbanded or the country imploded but I am sure for the commies it was fun while it lasted.

ModeratorBig difference (and I know this is mostly all tongue in cheek) between commie camps and this. Leftists are truly the enemies of God, the US, standard morals and culture, and Western civilization.

I don't disagree with you in the slightest. How they can loathe the society that produced them, sets the conditions, and allows them to spew the vitriol they do is beyond me. Of especial note to me is the way they cozy up to tyrants like Castro, Chavez, and Ahmedinajad, Islamists in general. It makes me wonder if they really are so blind that they cannot see how good life is in America for even the poorest people compared to say Iran, Cuba, or North Korea. I would dearly love to take everyone who votes Democrat on a boat and ship them to one of those countries so they can see how much they like it. We can start with Nancy Pelosi and everyone that contributes to HuffPo or Daily Kos.

Participant“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they (-write).” (Luke 23:34) :-[Meanwhile, if you ever meet a communist or a leftist, remember to offer them herbal tea. They believe proper tea is theft.
