This was #8 on Time's “Weird Government Secrets”. A secret bunker was located (still is?) underneath Grand Central station in New York and was guarded during WWII. Also secret was Track 61, a rail line which was used by certain wealthy travelers and by FDR, who didn't want people to see him in his wheelchair.Grand Central Terminal's Secret Rooms
I've been there dozens of times and have always been struck in awe at the grandeur of it. I heard legends that by the oyster bar (near the doors to 42nd St I believe) there is a certain spot where directly across (it goes down a ramp, levels out, then the ramp goes up again) a pin can be heard from across, a distance of at least 75 metres.
