So too… the government might dictate higher rates (or less coverage) for gun owners, people employeed in “dangerous” jobs, owners of certain fast cars, boats, or planes. How about the folks that have swimming pools (high risk factor. The list will become endless once Obama has a “risk czar” in place. ;D
I see where and why you guys are going, but high bodyfat is already a known and measurable health risk. Healthy guy, promiscuous life. Yes, that's a risky behavior, but that's not what the intention of measuring BMI is. If someone wants to donate blood, is it a violation of his rights if you don't let him because he had sex with another man? To me, that's quite similar to the article. His risky behavior is causing harm to another. Just as smokers cause harm to non-smokers and unhealthy fat people cause harm to my wallet.I say measure BMI, if it's high, you can continue to eat animal fat, but your premiums should be higher than someone with 6 or 7% bodyfat...just as auto insurance is higher for a more expensive car.
I've had it before, but I just made (for the first time ever) baked salmon. It came out pretty good. Had a romaine lettuce salad for a side.Take that, BMI!!!BTW - did you know that 1 oz. of Romaine lettuce has 11.5-12g of protein, while 1 oz of steak only has 4.5g?
Steak is tastier too. ;DThe issue is a slippery slope one. Once you let the government decide that one behavior is bad and deserving of higher premiums, taxes, or other approbations it is but a small step for them to start regulating every behavior considered risky. You can say they will not do it until you are blue in the face but the government will and you know it. The government and government bureaucrats are the original give ?em an inch and they will take a mile gang.Anybody willing to sacrifice some liberty for lower insurance premiums probably should look at their motivation and decide how much freedom they really want. Once we voluntarily give up liberties instead of raising h##l every time they are encroached upon, Big Brother is just around the corner. This kind of thinking is why we have the Patriot Act, people were willing to give up liberty for the sake of feeling secure.Personally, I would rather accept some risk and retain my rights and liberties. I trust myself and my fellow citizens much more than I trust some idiot, faceless, bureaucrat with a rulebook and a monopoly on force to keep me safe. I would rather be a dead wolf than a live sheep. The last thing to ask yourself is: If you are comfortable telling other people how they should live their life, how comfortable are you with the thought of others telling you the same? That is what will happen.
