I was in Yugoslavia when it was still communist in 1988....did it assert independence sometime after that?

Since the end of WW2 -? All of them. East Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Yugoslavia. The last was the 1st to assert its independence while remaining communist.
