This article from Reuters provides some interesting ways to visualize the US national debt and the rate at which the Federal government borrows money. My personal favorite is this one-
* The U.S. government borrows more than $40,000 per second. That's more than the cost of a year's tuition, room and board at many universities.
I find that one particularly apt having just finished schol and facing the prospect of financing my son going to college in a few years.
I think it's also unsettling to know where that money is going. The left seems to be great at thinking of ways of spending money, justifying it with some radical theory that America is flush with cash (e.g. Michael Moore).
It's easy, it is not their money they are spending.
