As far as introductory college courses go, what's the difference between these 2? Does Western Civ not touch on the history of China and Japan, for example? Does it cover Middle Eastern history at all?
Right – Western Civ classes will mostly pertain to history as it began with the Mesopotamian and Nile River settlements, through Greece and Rome, and European development and expansion into North and South America (and other parts of the world). They won't include histories of the East or Africa except as it relates to Western civilizations.I don't think that these classes will cover the Middle East at all except for early settlements (e.g. the birth of Judaism). If you're looking for a comprehensive history of the Middle East from beginning to current times you may want to find a specialized course in that area.
I will eventually, but I have to take one of these classes first. No Africa? hmmm. I'm sort of leaning towards World History so I can learn a little about China, there are some classes involving them later on.(and I mean no offense to a board called The Western Civ Forum :-D)
