    I have never claimed they are blameless.  I simply think they are our natural ally and less odious than any of the alternatives available as allies in the region.

    I would have to say that the events leading to the Third Punic War was also fairly weak in its underlying rationale.  I wonder if the Romans just wanted to erase any potential for a Carthaginian revival.
