As a young boy, I remember my dad telling me, while cruising the streets of Seattle, that it (the Korean War) was not a war, but a police action. Decades later, I was a policeman, but …. then it was Viet Nam. What is your favorite Korean War movie? Pork Chop Hill, the Bridges at Toko Ri? The pork chops on the grill? Was Viet Nam a barbeque, or a police action? Was Pork Chop Hill a novel, movie, or a menu item on a Korean BBQ resturant?Pork Chop Hill was real. And it was bloody. My jokes stop here. Here we are, still sending out our best young men to die overseas. My humor stops here. About where my anger begins.
I don't really know of any Korean War movies. Perhaps the closest was “The Manchurian Candidate” with Frank Sinatra…I think that was supposed to be based during/after the Korean War. I also liked the remake with Denzel Washington, but I thought that the designation of the bad guys in the newer movies was just so….Hollywood (if you've seen it, you know what I mean). The original one made more sense and was more believable.
The two I mentioned above are the only ones I know of. Pork Chop Hill was a book and movie about our efforts to take a certain hill in Korea, so it is based on factual events. The Bridges At Toko-Ri was fictional (I think), taken from a book by James Michener, and starred William Holden and Mickey Rooney.

Yeah, I know, I am a stultified commedian. I guess I need to delcare I'm putting on my serious hat before I say something serious. 😉 Toko-Ri is really good. Holden plays a naval aviator, Rooney a rescue helicopter pilot who wears a bright green top hat, and Grace Kelly is the hero's wife. I have not seen the other film in a very long time, but if I remember correctly, Gregory Peck stars. Catch them if you can.
Over the last month or so I have seen Gregory Peck in two movies – Roman Holiday and The Scarlet and the Black. Incidentally, both movies take place in Rome/Vatican City. Both are good movies.

The movie MASH was a good one. The TV series was great, a mix of humor and the serious side of war
