Why 2012 looks like a lot like 1860 This is a great op-ed from the Washington Examiner that explores a topic we have briefly discussed before on this forum. Namely, the increasing polarization of American politics. More and more, it seems as though not only can I not talk to liberals, I cannot even understand where they are coming from. I simply cannot grasp how they can feel that increasing government regulation and intrusion into daily life is a good thing. Where will our political divide lead us?
This is nothing new and is actual more civil than our earlier history. The political divide has been there since the first presidential elections. Instead of duels and fights, we now have the media doing all the shooting.
I have almost gotten into fistfights with liberals over their idiocy. I am starting to be converted to your position that they are not even worth talking to. I consider anyone who thinks they are entitled to a share of the fruit of someone else's labor an oxygen thief.
From my experience, overt hostility and polarization began in the 1960s. That is when an “uncivil” war began in the area of values and civil discourse and has intensified to this day.

Go check out the Boston Globe (especially) and Boston Herald comments section about Palin's Revere comments. Even after they were presented with the facts, they still deny. I saw one or two comments by Boston libs who were at least honest by finally admitting she was right, but just say they don't like here. That's fine. Denying facts, not so fine. This is just one of many examples of progressive denials.I still talk to lib/proggies to correct them, but I'm not polite. I seriously think they are brain damaged. I'd feel sorry for them, but I don't because these idiots have so much influence over our economics, politics, school system, etc. They are dangerous.
It is the disconnect to the point where we cant even really communicate across our political divide that will eventually bring on Civil War II. I highly encourage everyone her to read Tom Kratman's Carrera's War series, he presents a plausible fictionalized view of what the Liberals really want. He may be a little extreme but for some reason I don't think so. The time will eventually come where one side or the other will feel threatened enough to take up arms. I almost feel sorry for the liberal peaceniks when that happens.
I think some of the hostility has occurred due to internet comments which are anonymous or at least by people who have cloaked identities. When there is freedom from having one's name attached to an opinion, the opinion can be of the most extreme nature. In 1776, people who spoke their minds ordinarily had to do so with the courage that also placed their personal reputation on the line (Publius notwithstanding). This meant they had to think carefully about what they wanted to say. Nowadays, people realize that on the internet their opinions can be isolated from their reputations, so their opinions do not have to be tempered with moderation or civility.
That may be true to some extent, but I think the hostility comes from more virulent rhetoric. Yes, you'll hear the more extreme Righties use insults etc, but it's not even close to how much the Left…and pretty much all the Left…uses those words against us. I mean, you have to dig deep to find Conservative news sources or web pages to find this behavior, but all you have to do to hear attacks on Conservatives is turn on CBS news. It's becoming more uncivil because we, or some of us at least (myself included), are just sick of taking it and we realize the only way to win is to fight back no holds barred using their own tactics against them. And no I do not think this is the same as "becoming like the enemy" because when we do it, ours is more relevant because it's not false accusations, it's the truth. Politics ain't like preaching the gospel folks. It's a battle. Always was and always will be.
The proggies repeatedly lie until it's considered the truth. We just need to hammer back by repeatedly telling the truth. Post on Facebook, any discussion board, call or post on your local news channels, write or post on all the newspapers and websites just like they do. Sitting back until the truth eventually filters it's way in isn't an option anymore. They have way too much influence on our society.Tell your friends. Tell your teammates. Don't wait for them to say something. Bring it up first. Just this morning at work about a half dozen of my friends here thought Palin was wrong because they listened to and believed the MSM narrative. I printed and made copies of Revere's letter for them. They now all know she wasn't so wrong after all.
