KeymasterIsn't that called something like a “craw boil”….something like that? I vaguely remember it from my days in Texas.

ParticipantWe call them them Crawdads in the south.

KeymasterWell, the biggest U.S. soccer game in recent memory is about to begin. A lot of buzz going on around here because of it. How's it being presented in Germany? Is it just “another game” that the Germans are expecting to cruise through?

ParticipantSo it's gonna be Belgium-Usa. No need to ask which team you will support. Good luck. 8)

ParticipantI don't know. I could not watch the game because I was at work. Most of the Germans I talk to hoped for a tie, which would guarantee both would advance. I wanted the US to win just for the bragging rights. I guess that is out of the window now though.

They hoped for a "tie"??? Did they think they'd hurt Obama's feelings if Germany won? Yikes.

Alright, since this may be the one time in the near future that the U.S. will be clashing against Belgium on the world stage, I say we do a wager. If the U.S. wins, Aeth has to drink a U.S. beer (or equivalent drink), and if Belgium wins, I/anyone else participating must drink a Belgian beer. Photo proof (of the can/bottle) should be posted as verification. Takers?

ParticipantTuesday is coming. Would you like me to submit a list of fine Belgian beers for you in order to smooth any kind of deep disappointment after that kind of football lesson? 🙂However and against all odds, except Budweiser, any tasty US beers you can suggest? (not from Anheuser-Busch InBev pls)

KeymasterTasty? Oh, how you're mistaken if you think that is in order for a U.S. beer. Maybe it should be PBR for you!Ok, ok, we'll spare you on that account. I can think of some decent U.S. beers but am not sure they'd be available in your neck of the woods.

KeymasterT minus one hour, thirty minutes. By the way, I like Ann Coulter but her recent column was just stupid. It actually hurts her insightful political arguments when she comes up with dumb social arguments.

ParticipantA very good match: it was hot until the last second!!

KeymasterAh, well, America bows to Belgium. Good game. I will have to search for that Belgian beer now. You may provide suggestions, of course!
July 2, 2014 at 7:28 am #30065Aetheling
ParticipantDifficult to suggest one beer or another, it depends on what can be found there. However if I may do so, I'd recommend you some.If you wish you can start with a traditional breakfast-lunch-dinner diet (waffle-chocolate-beer).About beers, Duvel is a good blond but strong one; or you can choose a Chouffe (blond) or Orval (brown, Trappist abbey); then you can try any other beers you came along with like: Derilium Tremens or Derilium Nocturum and complete your Gourmet Tour with a Stille Nacht.Of course if you prefer fruity beers there is also the famous Kriek (geuze), made of cherries. But don't forget some cheese sprinkled with celery salt or few roasted peanuts of course. 🙂A short list here, just in case: (with many that I've never heard of before...)http://www.thebestbelgianbeer.com/Scout can probably provide few more wise advicesbtw your Tim Howard is really the man of the game!

KeymasterA little secret – I realized that with my wager I'd still win even if I lost….Belgian beer is probably my favorite of all and so I will try to fulfill my duty by searching for what you have given here. Now, I did try some geuze beer some years back when I toured a brewery in Brussels and didn't really like the taste, but from what I here that kind of beer is now making a comeback. So I was ahead of the curve in my culinary adventure!

ParticipantMy picture will be posted shortly. Phid is right. It is not much trouble to lose a wager like this because the price of losing is almost a reward in itself.
