After reviewing the sql data, I'd have to do quite a bit of editing to make it work. Phid has several mods added to this forum which would have to be omitted in each entry, and the table structures have some slight differences as well. It's not really worth it for me to try. Everyone just go over and register on both sites and I'll assign administrator and moderator status after you guys are there. 🙂
Nice looking sites - I'm anxious to see it populated!
Thank you. I believe writersofhistory.com won't be a well kept secret for long. As History graduate students, we know what content to put on the site to attract the students searching for online help. I do intend to make some money on this site, and perhaps for others who volunteer to tutor online. I don't know how we will charge for services or when, but ultimately I think a source of revenue would be very possible here. Perhaps it could be done through donations. But yeah go on and register and if you want to volunteer to be an online tutor and proofreader, it would be greatly appreciated. 🙂
I just tried to register and got an error screen that says this page does not exist. Am I missing something here?
I hadn't checked the registration features on the main website. They might not be setup properly or turned on. The forums is the main place I need you for now. 🙂
Okay I got the registration issue resolved on the main site. Thanks to my hiccuping satellite connection, I didn't upload all the files. I probably have a few more to upload, but they aren't that important right now. Everything to get registered should work now. 🙂
What happened to this site?Is it down for good?In general, why is it that I am finding so many mismanaged or hacked history forums? As a hobby I am into motorcycles and I seem to be able find an overabundance of motorcycle related forums that don't have any problems. Why are history forums always getting hacked or otherwise become a ghost town? Thanks
Hello, awhicker! I just visited WOH and it was operating for me (yesterday it was a bit slow but it seems to have picked up since). As to why there may be mismanaged/hacked history forums, I really don't know what to say. Our forum here was actually born out of another forum a few years back which currently is regularly overcome with spam. Here, we have reduced spam to virtually nothing…and when it occasionally does pop up, it is promptly removed. We have been hit by a hacker (or two) in the past who has been able to infiltrate, likely due to the fault of the web hosting company. As for motorcycle forums, I imagine that they may tend to have fewer problems because they are likely associated with commercial enterprises....it's a lot easier for a company like Honda or Harley Davidson to establish a professional forum with paid administrators than it is for a history forum which is run by history lovers who make pay for their forums out of their own pockets.A number of us here study history at different levels, or even teach it. We welcome your posts and are happy for any contributions you make here!
