At age 82 as of the 24th of June, WWII was a current event for a 9-13 year old boy growing up in San Francisco. Later I became friends with WWII fliers, and at one function in the 1970s I met General Kurz who flew the Swoose Goose, 13 victory PTO ace Jim Brooks and wife “Liltin” Martha Tilton; 24.5 ace Bud Mahurin, ETO and Korea, Robert Roland Stanford Tuck with 30 RAF kills and his good friend Adolf Galland who needs no introduction, and many others.. “Jewish Lucky” Tuck and Galland became buddies — both shot down the other's wingman during the Battle of Britain; Galland hosted Tuck after he was shot down; Tuck helped plan “the Great Escape but was sent to another camp before the breakout; and he became godfather for Galland's son born in 1966. Developer Trammer Crowe end up with Galland's shotguns liberated by a G.I — Galland would have qualified for the 1940 Olympics as a shooter — and Crowe returned them to Galland.
