He falls in the same category, but his ascension to power might have been easier than the big three.
You're sure of that 🙂 ?His empire lasted longer than those three and even increased its size after his death. Biggest Mongol invasion of Europe took place in 1241-1242. That's fourteen years after Genghis' death.
But he didn't have to fight the Persians, British/Russians, and the Allies either.
This book was my first exposure to Thomas Cahill but I was not disappointed when I start and finish reading it. Sailing the Wine Dark Sea is an enjoyable overview of how ancient Greece shaped the conceptual paradigms which still guide Western society today.
What "conceptual paradigms" are you specifically referring to? And are you sure we are still being guided by them? Welcome to the forum by the way. 🙂
Looking good Patrick. I'll update my blog roll to include your new site. Yes coding is almost addictive. Just remember, after you've had fun changing things around, you will end up going to what works and that is keeping it simple and functional. Your content is what will bring visitors, not how pretty you can make it look. Just stick with readable fonts Ariel, Sans-Serif etc… and you can do no wrong. Your audience will love you for it trust me.
Does this topic belong in World War II or the Senate Chambers? My take is the guy did nothing wrong and should tell the media to take a hike. He's not a Nazi sympathizer, he's a re-en-actor. Somebody has to play the bad guys when re-enactments are done. I know some gun dealers who have lots of Nazi memorabilia. My father has a ton of old Nazi stamps. They are collectors of historical relics and nothing more. The same with this guy only his interest is live action.
Ok, my happiness was premature. Due to family circumstances I have to drop the class and will not be able to start until December now. 🙁 I guess in-laws really are for messing up the best laid plans.
You can go ahead and start gathering your sources and researching. You don't have to be enrolled in the class to get started. Do what you can and be ahead of the curve come December.
I think the wealth disparity is natural and virtually unchangeable. The concentration of wealth among a few elites allows for the creation of large corporations that create jobs for others. If wealth is redistributed, it cannot be used as efficiently and the scale of the economy would shrink thus creating mediocrity for all. The only answer is education. Give folks the tools to succeed in the modern economy and let them take their chances. However, if everyone gets education, then the value of that education goes down and the wages such education would garner. See there is no real answer to this problem.
Scout I think the free-enterprise system is all but dead. The world economy is being increasingly focused in on a corporate fascist model with a pinch of pinko socialism thrown in…even in the USofA. I think we are all moving closer to China's model than the old American model. Globalism, interdependence, and environmental politics are driving the bus now and they have little to do with Adam Smith.
No, but to the victors go the spoils. Should we have put Mt. Rushmore on the sacred Black Hills of the Sioux? Absolutely not, but to the victors go the spoils.
If that is the case, and I am not arguing it, then the Israels are perfectly justified in rebuilding their temple there right? Also, it was once the Church of the Holy Sepulcher as well. Remember, I am still a Right of Conquest type guy.The Muslims built the Dome of the Rock there as a means of asserting a claim to territory they had conquered. I am not convinced that Muslims really believe in Allah. I sometimes think they just use Allah as a cheap means to justify whatever ends they choose. I am pretty close in m thinking to rejecting claims that Islam is a religion in the first place. I begin to think it is nothing more than a political ideology wrapped up in religious robes. Similar to Nazism, Communism, or Socialism. It is called a religion because it is one of the oldest political ideologies around.
Yes Israel has a right to rebuild their temple, from right of conquest standpoint and from the historical standpoint that it was there originally anyway. However, Israel has to weigh the ramifications of what rebuilding the temple might be. It would create a controversial firestorm in the region and may ignite war on an immense scale. So it is also a national security issue at the same time. Odd huh?
