ParticipantMost arts and sciences departments are dominated by liberals. I'd say your field even more so.

ParticipantI thought I remembered that name from somewhere.

ParticipantDepending on the line of questioning by a future employer, I don't think you have to sacrifice your principles...merely emphasize things that you believe in that you think they might want to hear and hold other ideas to yourself which may sound "controversial" to them. I would say that the average conservative agrees with the average liberal on a number of issues, at least in terms of "ends", rather than "means". For example, both would agree that we should be able to live in safe cities, that education should be improved, and that it is right to help the poor. Focusing on the ends rather than the means, then, can help a conservative connect with others across the ideological aisle.
I wish it were that simple, but the committee will do the asking, and if you appear to be dodging or disingenuous, they will know, and that could be the thing that costs you most.

ParticipantSo it is. But unique in a weird sort of way.

Participantok now i was just reading the posts ofcourse some of the posts are quite old, but i was just wondering has anyone read this book byZacharia Sitchin called "the Wars of Gods an the Men?" it talks of Sargon the First, also known as "Sharru-Kin--' 'Righteous Ruler' '; I'm just wondering. i've only stumbled upon the book and have just started reading it, and am referancing it to make sure its based on fact. the book is part of a series of books of which it is the third in the series.
Sitchin is not a serious academic historian to be considered here. He belongs in cryptozoology or some other faux science. He and Von Danniken are barking up a really weird tree.

ParticipantI won't say I told you guys so. If you plan on teaching at a university or college, be prepared to have to do this to get hired. It's just the way it is.
Then I probably won't teach at a university and will have to get an honest job. I refuse to compromise my principals or integrity in pursuit of money or prestige. That is one reason why I despise academia and politicians in the first place. I think everybody on this board knows I am not a go along to get along type of person.
Now you know why I have not pushed myself to get into that mess at this time. I was told by my professor that if I wanted to get hired, I would have to fake a little liberalism to sway the interviewing committee. I'm not good at faking beliefs, in fact, I rather suck at it.

ParticipantTo be honest, I don't see too much wrong with those examples other than they are “blanket” statements. I assume that these points are defended with examples right?

ParticipantWe would have revolted again and again and again until England was too busy chasing Napoleon around or too bored at kicking our tails. 🙂

ParticipantI can't wait to see the new movie. I loved the old one, but this one looks to really be epic. I hope I'm not setting myself up for a huge disappointment.

ParticipantI have a copy somewhere.

ParticipantSwitzerland bankrolled the Nazis didn't it? Isn't that why so many holocaust families are trying to get their money returned to them?

ParticipantWarning: admittedly close-minded opinion and beliefs follow:I do not care what wikipedia or any other academic source says about this, the God of the Bible is not the god of the Koran. There is only one God and one Messiah, and although I cannot prove or it is not logical to many, I believe that Jesus Christ is that One. Anyone or anything else is a false god/prophet/messiah.
Stand and be counted my man! 🙂

ParticipantRussia is definitely European as most of its population base resides in the European continent.Turkey is also European/Mediterranean having its history tied to European affairs throughout the Seljuk and Ottoman periods, and even today hopes for inclusion into the European Union.Papau New Guinea is Polynesian, but I would argue the most "Asian" of the three you listed.Australia and New Zealand are "European" since they were colonized by Europeans but they are their own continent anyway so that point is moot.

ParticipantI don't know how this information can be linked to the Kingdom of Judah but it seems that Israel today's army is on top about stealth operations !! :-http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20100128/tod-israeli-soldiers-get-odour-free-sock-7f81b96.html
