ParticipantGood Lord! Homer Lea's hopes for China and Sun predated WWI before the USSR and Mao.

ParticipantA now forgotten man, hunchback Homer Lea, 1876-1912, led a Chinese Republican contingent at the battle and was the only caucasian present at the inauguration of Sun Yat-Sen. His Valor of Ignorance pub. 1908 predicting war between U.S. Jaopan and Day of the Saxon pub. 1912 prediciting war between Great britain and Germany were widely read by generals and politicians of the day. He died before completing The Swarming of the Slav prediciting the great battle between the Saxon nations and Russia. His great wish was for China to become a republic with U.S. style democracy.

ParticipantMy sources agree with you. Also, Hitler and his low born followers referred to the European royals and nobility, who were connected by blood regardless of post WWI nationality, as The Blue Internationale.

ParticipantAnother “Berserker” warrior group may have been the Moros of the Philippine Insurrection after the Spanish American War. Supposedly they tied their penises tightly so they could not urinate and charged crazed into the Americans. The bullets of the .38s fired by our soldiers failed to knock them down before they reached their targets with bolo knives. That is why the .45 was created. So I was told while serving.

ParticipantThanks again for confirming what I have researched.

ParticipantYes, it does, but as I am writing a novel set during the reign of Louis the Pious, I do not want to make the mistake of calling him Charlemagne before it became used. So far, I am referring to him in conversations as Great Charles. I suppose the same problem exists for Germanic Aachen and when Aix la Chapelle came into use. One source I found says the transition to a regional French language emerged in the mid-800s.

ParticipantProbably Einhard in his biography of Charlemagne (circa 817 to 833) : "EINHARDI VITA KAROLI MAGNI"http://www.thelatinlibrary.com/ein.html http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/basis/einhard.html
Then you but --- "Great Charles" -- I knew about Einhard's bio, but when was Karoli Magnus Frenchified to Charlemagne?

ParticipantThe analogy between modern America and Ancient Rome is at least imperfect. The lesson for modern day America is you can get away with just about anything so long as you have military power. And they do. Who is going to stop them?
Perhaps politicians like Reid ( "We have lost the war.") and followers with the same Vichy mentality who lack the will to fight or even the patriotism to serve in the military.

ParticipantA 400 year “fad” ended by Napoleon's force of arms. It stifled the growth of science and commerce. Thanks to the Inquisition, home industries declined. All its wealth from the New World went into fighting wars vs. France and to save the Austrian habsburgs in the 17th century and paying high prices for imports because no home industries existed due to the expulsion of the Jews in 1492 and the Moriscos in 1609, plus the never-ending hounding of conversos and new-Christians. 15,000 new-Christian families fled Spain from 1643-1665 during the reign of Diego Arce Reynoso as Inquisitor General acording to his biographer.

ParticipantAnd those who fled the Inquisition for the New World did so in vain because it followed them to the Spanish and Portuguese colonies.

ParticipantNeither, which is true. I am equally active mornings and evenings to night. I learned when I reached “upper division” at the big U and had more choice in planning my classes that I was born to siesta in the afternoon.Eating or not eathing lunch has nothing to do with my afternoon lethargy.

ParticipantLittle known factoid, speaking of Poland–Merriam C. Cooper, who produced King Kong, was a WWI flyer. After the war he flew for Poland with some other buddies in the Kosciusko (sp) Squadron in their war vs. the new Bolshevik govt. Sort of a payback for Thaddeus Kosciusko and Casimir Pulaski.

ParticipantWe used to call November 11 Armistice Day, and WWI vets sold poppies.
