Nobody really talks about John Adams in historical circles these days. It's good to see him get some attention. I'd like to see documentaries on other neglected presidents like Millard Fillmore or John Tyler or Zachary Taylor. Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, Kennedy, and the Roosevelts seem to get all the glory.
Oh, for a moment there I was going to ask if you are crazy or something...I thought you had included Jefferson, Lincoln, Washington, Kennedy in the list of "neglected" presidents. Now I see you are saying the opposite. But what I want to ask is how much you know of Millard Fillmore. Tonight Bill O'Reilly mentioned something about how Millard Fillmore almost broke the streak of white males on the presidency of the United States. I didn't know what he meant by that. I thought maybe he had a non-white running mate, but from what I read I think he went without a VP the first term and then added someone white for the second term (Andrew Jackson Taylor, I believe), when I think he ran with the Know Nothing party. Anyway, it was a curious statement by O'Reilly so I was wondering if anyone knew what the deal was.
Excuse me, but let's try to stay on line here. The subject is John Adams, and his wife. Being guilty of diverting threads on other forums, I am not happy to see such efforts here. The subject is John Adams. Thank you.
Saving private Ryan is excellent. Speaking of casablanca I just got the two disc special edition and loved it, if your a fan you have to get it.
I agree. I remember when I paid for it. Had a bunch of Chinese type take out, hungry I was. But the opening minutes of men trying to get of those landing boats .... I mean I had some tasty stuff lined up, but the carnage killed my appietite. I was all lined up with chopsticks and cheap cartons, and I just weenied out. Killed my appetite. After wathching machine gun bullets tear through young men, I lost my appitite for Chinese food, with amazing rapidity. But, to this day, I still love Oriental food.
Mister Roberts is my favoriteGod is My Co-Pilot is nextWhen I was a kid I lived in Gen Robert L. Scott's hometown of Macon. Ga The premier of God is My Co-Pilot was in Macon( this was during WW2 and probably a propaganda film to some extent). I stood in a line over a block long to get into the theater. General Scott died last year at about 90 years old. He worked at the Air Museum in Warner Robins one day a week until just before his death
But what if stopping weapons proliferation accidentally stopped a gunfight somewhere, saving your family? Or should we still just keep pumping the ammo and guns onto that conflict? Save your family, or continue finance as usual?Shit! Are you kidding me? Stop a gunfight? You must be fucking nuts! What the fuck do you think we are paying you for? Why, to slaughter civilains. Is that not the purpose for slaughter in Africa? And we are selling weapons to support this slaughter. Until you grab your senators and congressmen by their nutsacks, and cut their ball off, you will continue to a weenine boy.As long as you allow George to run wild in the White House, you are at fault, because you allow him to do so. Take charge; tell our president your are not happy with his actions. It won't make any difference, because our president, in my estimation, is not listening to the people. Even worse, he has assumed and declared powers that demand he be immediately disposed. He meant well. But he's just way out of his depth.Sorry, Mr. ex president, but your son is an ongoing joke. Get him a job in one of those commedy clubs. The boy just wants to be funny, and loved. How could you possibly allow him to screw up for so long?Sincerely,A sad citizen
From my limited readings on history I think we are doomed to make the mistakes of the past. Especially politically, I see the same rationalizations and justifications for war repeated over and over again. I was thinking it might be a good idea if all political leaders had to take a brush up history course before taking office!
Alright, you know the rules (i.e. no searching for this on the internet!). Tell me which famous historical figure is reported to have said the following:
Amnesty, Sir, applies to criminals. We have committed no crime. At your door lies all the misery and crime of this war ... We are fighting for Independence?and that, or extermination, we will have
???
Thank you for this query, but I must confess, I have no idea. Grand words, spoken as a true relvolutionary individul would. Anywhere. Could it possibly have been one of our own? Proud, indeed, I would be of him.
I seriously doubt it's all about the profit. Peace through superior firepower.
We obviously do not profit financially from the war in Iraq, but those countries that profit by selling arms to others in conflict fuels war like throwing gasoline on a fire. Those that profit from arm sales to other nations are encouraging and sustaining warfare. So, should all nations stop selling weapons of war to others? This would leave each individual country free to beat the crap of itself with civil conflicts, but not pick on other nations, right?Nah! Let's keep thowing gas on fires all over the world. >:(
....So my question is: Should we accept or rebuke our current politcal infastructure? If yes, why? And, if no, why?
Not the structure but the players... re-elect no one; nor the spouses of past officers.
I do not agree. It is the stucture, rather than the players, that allows the current politcal mess. JMHO. 🙁And anything less than the constitution is arguing against it. What was your problem with the constitution? And what specific segment bothers you?
Mirrored images of goverments? I forgot the original question. Was it not new goverments created by war, or something like that? Was the form, the sturucture discussed? New regimes often reflect the form which they were spawned; they mirror the past, which is generally a bad thing, as it has been in this country for decades. So my question is: Should we accept or rebuke our current politcal infastructure? If yes, why? And, if no, why?
Over the last month or so I have seen Gregory Peck in two movies - Roman Holiday and The Scarlet and the Black. Incidentally, both movies take place in Rome/Vatican City. Both are good movies.
Check out "To Kill a Mocking Bird". For one example of black and white film making. This one features Robert Duvall - enjoy!
