well a few years back former speaker of the house newt gengrich wrote a book on this. most people belive that we (the south) would have won the war then and there. the only reason why is the union victory at vicksburg…had the yankees not won we (the south) could have survived a few more years OR EVEN TOTAL VICTORY
yeah he thought that some …of course…jews were the reason that he did not get in. it is weird to think…what would have happend if he was let into the art school?
ok i thought that lucy was major taylor his aid's horse… but i guess not…. have y'all heard about how traveler was barried with his butt under his head stone and people placing penneis ontop of it….HA HA
I had a professor who insisted that the reason was the business of slavery, rather than slavery itself. As Wally touched on the economies between North and South differed, which suggests that tensions between the two right there.I guess we could rephrase the issue and ask - would the North and South have gone to war over the issue of slavery if all else were equal in terms of their economies (i.e. if slavery were not a factor in the South's economic well-being)?
well yes... the root to the problem lies in the founding of the collonies. VA was founded by men who were loyal to the king and the money MONEY...BUT after a few years later when the puritans came across the pond they were the decendents of Cromwells lot and it is well acounted for if you were not one of them you were looked down upon.87% of the Confederat soldiers did not own slavesbut like i and many others have said this was FOR THE RIGHT TO LEAVE IF WE FEEL LIKE IT OR NOT
Not sure if he is overrated but wondering what he was thinking when he ordered Pickett to charge the Union forces which held the higher ground at Gettysburg? I mean that was just plain suicide, no? What a huge military blunder that cost them the war.
welll it SHOULD have worked BUT Longstreet did not deploy his troops in time, the artilery was missing, and the speed of the advance was WAY to slow this was all Longstreets fault...but Lee messed up by trying something new he should have gone around to the union suplie base and made them hit him on ground of his choosing but at that time men arogance was the name of the game.... Meade just lucked out!
It would have to be George Thomas, I think. He was one of the most capable army commanders in the war, saved the Army of the Cumberland at Chickamauga, and finished off Hood in Tennessee in 1864. Everyone forgets him, despite the fact that he was behind only Grant, Sherman, and Meade in the Union Army's seniority at the end of the war.
well at that time Hood was dooped up and drunk because of his amputations...infact General Forrest said to him "Sir if you were half a man i would wip our A**" i mean if Hood was all right in the head he would have not sent his best general off to his death
i agree with buddy ruff before me but other people like me say states rights….but i think my feelings are of George Picketts in Gettysburg (i know that this was from the script) “Colonel, think on it, now. Now you suppose that we all join a club, a gentlemen's club. And then, well, after a time, several of the members began to, uh… began to intrude themselves into our private lives, our home lives. Began tellin' us what we could do, what we couldn't do. Well, then, wouldn't any one of us have the right to resign? I mean, just resign. Well, that's what we did. That's what I did, and now these people are tellin' us that we don't have that right to resign.” that is what my ancestors did so yeah
The Battle of the Crater in Cold Mountain was also remarkable as a Civil War battle.
that is my favorite part of that movie...or when jude law dies i can not decide but one thing i can say is the battle of fredericksburg expecialy the part about the irish bargade http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcm8C3xpaRg
there is of couse the Catholics, podistants and orthodox but I belive there should be one more...................I belive that baptist are their own because the people the who left John the baptist and followed Jesus early in his ministry were called baptist. the ideas have changed a little but we are still the origonal church 22After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized. 23Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were constantly coming to be baptized. 24(This was before John was put in prison.) 25An argument developed between some of John's disciples and a certain Jew[a] over the matter of ceremonial washing. 26They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan?the one you testified about?well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him." 27To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven. 28You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of him.' 29The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. 30He must become greater; I must become less. 31"The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. 33The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. 34For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God[c] gives the Spirit without limit. 35The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. 36Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."[d]
