Use the force and review the book too and understand that these ideas helped shape the world and conditions that created a Hitler and a Stalin and the reason for the Irish migration, the hispanic migration, etc. A more humanistic view of markets may have made a better world.
Adam Smith, the author of The Wealth of Nations. He explained the mechanisms of how capitalism worked making it more efficient and helping to shape today's world. One of his axioms was that the labor supply will adjust to demand.
Debating the morality of the atomic bomb dropping is politically motivated. No one seems interested in debating the morality of the fire bombing of Tokyo which killed more and did more damage. I don't hear anyone complaining about the morality of the Jap. in the use of biological weapons in China, the effects of which are still present. In the '70s I told people opposed to nuclear weapons that there were other weapons just as bad, biological and chemical, they should be opposing them too. All I got was a stupid look back. These weapons did not have the dramatic visual effect of an atomic blast. In the '80's an anti-nuclear group placed a plack in Encanto Park in Phoenix AZ. describing and mapping the destruction that would happen if the location of the plack were ground zero. Well, Encanto Park would not be ground zero. They would aim for the intersection of the interstate highways with the interstate gas pipelines and railroad to the south and west. The plack was simple scare propaganda.
Should have seen it coming. One of the stories from the Grimm Brothers is called The Jew in the Thorns. To keep it short a simpleton went on a trip an encountered a Jew who was leaning against a fence listening to a bird sing. The simpleton robbed the Jew who ran ahead to town and told the authorities he had been robbed. When the simpleton reached town he was arrested and was going to be hung. The simpleton made the Jew confess that he had stolen the money from good, honest folk so they hung the Jew instead.Hatred of the Jew then was part of the culture.
Whatever you do though, don't go into humanities over history. Humanities programs are nothing but propaganda outlets for leftists who hate the Western democratic/capitalist legacy. Humanities professors are not intellectually honest, nor do they even really try to keep up the pretenses. Stick to true history programs and you will get far more out of your educational experience. 🙂
I agree with the exception that history can be manipulated also. After the terror event in NY there was a lot of politically correct history of the Muslims made available. While essentially correct there was a lot that was not included. I recomend reading old history books as a means of getting around today's PC. Available in a lot of public libraries is H.G. Wells book The Outline of World History. If you do nothing else then read his rational for writing the book. It will explain the need for learning history. Interestingly, while he was writing this book another one was being written in Germany with the title, Litle Man What Now?
Hatred of the Jews came latter when Christian princes needed to borrow money. Because Christians could not be money lenders they went to the Jews. When a prince became too heavily indebted what better solution then to stir up the peasants against the Christ killers? Kill a few, run off the rest, confiscate their property then bargain with them to forgive the debt and come back. Old gag that the Nazi applied on an industrial scale.
IBT, I had not heard that before. It was my understanding that homo sapien was different from other two-legged humanoid forms such as perhaps cro magnon man. And I have seen something which I think suggested that the two lived at the same time. It was also my understanding (from a documentary I think on Nova) that DNA research has pin-pointed man's origins in Africa, and from there he wandered to different continents.
Yes in Africa but not on the Savanna. All hominids there died. I think man was the exception because he wasn't there, had gone elsewhere early on.
The way I understand it the early Christians were communal, holding all things in common except their wives. Equal exchange was necessary and profiting in dealing with others by much was a sin. As a result Jews became the money lenders charging interest that was profitable for them but brought them hatred much like lawyers today.
I have never heard what the Japanese school history books say about WWII but the Chinese are very irritated about it.For the Chinese there are still a number of issues to be resolved.
