JOHNNIE TURNER: “I’m not comparing the Confederacy with Adolf Hitler. I’m just saying during the time that he reigned, there were statues everywhere. But today, you would have to look far and wide.”
This is a completely asinine statement. 1. Of course you are comparing the Confederacy to Hitler and the Nazis2. In doing so you now place the Confderacy as "evil". They weren't any more evil than their Union counterparts.3. The statues during Hitlers reign were glorifications of him and his party during his time in power. Were these Confederate statues, monuments, parks, etc around during the war to glorify them? Of course not.4. This is nothing more than another black man using the Confederacy as a racist vehicle.5. Rep. Turner needs to understand his American history and realize that he is arbitrarily associating the Confederacy with hate, not realizing the North was equally as hateful to blacks during that period.6. Using Nathan B. Forrest as an example - the man was a son of TN, can be argued that he was not at all racist (see his speech at the "Jubilee of Pole Bearers" in 1875) and was told by Gen. Wm T. Sherman during the Virginius Affair of 1873 that he would have "considered it an honor to have served side-by-side with him." His association with the KKK is cloudy and the organization he was part of does not resemble what it became, causing him to disband it in 1869. 7. Speaking of Sherman, does this mena anything associated with him should be renamed since he himself did not believe blacks should have been emancipated?Once again, our uninformed, uneducated, and agenda driven society has it all wrong. And these folks are in charge of our country. That is sad.
Survey course information… Good if you knew little to nothing about the Civil War.And like Patrick said, this info is found abundantly elsewhere...Move along, nothing to see here 😀
This is why war happened. The premise would be the same as the American colonists taking their case to this "neutral" court against the King. They are subjects of Britain, bound by the Kings laws. So, if a disagreement cannot be settled in this manner the result is war.The South could get the Union to acquiesce, so war it was.Personally, I think the South had legitimate gripes, but their legal ground was shaky at best.
How could there be peaceful secession? The South tried that before the war and the US government put the kibosh on that. There is no circumstance that the federal government is going to “peacefully” allow any state to break free from it's control. The first state that tries (seriously tries, because I agree with all here, the current talk of secession is just that - talk) will find the government in their business quicker than snot...and you can bet the military and CIA will all be there too... It just isn't going to happen on a state-to-state basis.I would be interested in the response if, say, the entire midwest, decided to band together and break away. I again think it would be suicide, but would be curious if the states Guard units would protect their home states against Federal troops. I have no doubt the people, or at least some of them, would, but here is no way militia guerrrilla fighting would be able to overpower federal troops. But like scout said, this would entail Martial Law, and as soon as that happens we would have an all out civil war. And if we thought the first one was bloody it will be a cakewalk to what we could expect. Think about it, guerrilla warfare with current weapons, the lack of compassion for mankind (you wouldn't see a break to collect up the dead to bury or captives being released or traded as in the first civil war - it would be nothing but death), and the sheer number of people (35 million in 1865 vs 312 million in 2012). And if the people of the 1860's thought it was hard to tell who was their enemy and who was their friend think about it now... whites, blacks, latinos, asians, chritian, athiest, rich, poor, etc the mix of people is vastly different and would make for a deadly combination in a civil war.I don't think secession, peacful or otherwise is a wise option, for anyone. With the troubles in the rest of the world now is not the time for us to divide... I truly believe that if the current division widens, we will be ripe for the picking from other world powers.
There is a secession movement cranking up. Anybody know what that's all about?
Has happened all the time since the Civil War... Splitting is a bad idea, especially now, even if we don't agree, because any single state would fall flat on it's face by itself after all these years of being spoonfed by the government. The Federal government wouldn't let it happen, just as Lincoln wouldn't let it happen. There is no benefit from seceeding, not at this point anyway. The best bet is to unite, but our leaders and government are preventing that. Besides, I think you will see a lot of people who would rather "live off the grid" and pull out of mainstream society than be party to it. They'll pack their things and isloate themselves wherever they canSecession would be suicide for America and the seceeding states. I personally agree that we pull out of the world as much as possible, and work on becoming autonomous the best we can. And being the leader isn't so as important as being secure and happy. I would be all for slowing down and living somewhat the life our pioneer forefathers did. Living off the grid sounds better and beter every day.
Simply put.. “Stupid is as stupid does.”America has become a bunch of spoiled, socialistic crybabies. How the country can vote in AGAIN a man responsible for the current state of affairs in this country is mind-boggeling. Take Wisconsin... The polls showed that the young voters there were the majority and they supported Obama because they felt all the problems were... wait for it... Bush's fault... What????? The majority of blacks voted for Obama simply because he is black. The problem is that the system is so broken, the people so out of touch there is nowhere for the country to go but down. That saddens me. :'(
Oh absolutely… He even stated one of the purposes was to help work on better astronaut suits that could possibly allow for better protection in case they might have to eject… Might save lives…
We wwatched it after church while we were having lunch… luckily the Chinese restaurant had TV's with this on… I agree, it was way cool. That view from the edge of his capsule was intense... That had to be a humbling moment for him...
I have made the changes here.BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what is the payout structure like at Hubpages? Do they pay you a fixed rate based upon the number of page views? Followers? I have come across Hubpages articles from time to time but never looked at the service very closely.
From HubPages:
You earn money through online advertising (Google AdSense and the HubPages Ad Program) and/or affiliate referrals (displayed in the form of Amazon and eBay Capsules). Every time someone views one of your Hubs, ads are displayed. 60% of the time, these ads can generate revenue for you, and 40% of the time, the ads can generate revenue for HubPages. You can set up an AdSense account with Google through a simple form. Once you hit their minimum payout, you will get paid directly by Google.eBay and Amazon products are optionally featured in your Hubs through Capsules—you decide which products to highlight. However, Google AdSense and the Ad Program automatically display ads in your Hub—no Capsules are needed. In order to participate in the Ad, eBay, or Amazon Programs, you must activate the HubPages Earnings Program. The HubPages Earnings Program provides a way for HubPages to pay you directly for the Ad, eBay, and Amazon Programs, and other things like contest prize winnings. Once you hit the minimum earnings in the HubPages Earnings Program, you will get paid by HubPages directly.
Obviously relevance, popularity, etc are going to be the main driver in your revenue. I gurantee a hubber posting reviews of the lastest garbage on TV, gossip, current events, etc are gonna score big. Same for politics and religion. History... yeah, not so much... BUT... for me, I just enjoy writing and reading some of the positive comments I get. AND I have made a little money in the process. I have not figured my average, but I received a check a couple months back for $50. It took a while, but was a nice little surprise. However, since then I have been seeing an increase in my revenue and already have $22 in a couple months...If anyone here signs up BE SURE to use my link... the commission program works like this:
You'll give people you know a specially-encoded link to a page on HubPages. If they click on that link and sign up within 30 days, and before they click on someone else's specially-encoded link, then you'll enjoy 10% of their lifetime impressions automatically. That 10% comes out of our share, not theirs; they will earn 60% of impressions whether they sign up through you or not.
For me the referral link is: http://hubpages.com/_njb1966/user/new/All hubs (articles) remain your property, you can post as often or as little as your schedule allows, you can post on pretty much whatever you want (as long as it falls under their TOS - no porn, etc.) the ads aren't terribly intrusive, and managing your hubs is pretty simple.Let me know if anyone signs up or wwants more info...
If you guys have added my Civil War blog to your recipricol links, you can go ahead and remove it… I am moving most of my writing over to my HubPages account which has been paying me fairly well with the articles I have there. After looking at analytics, I get very little traffic at my Civil War page and a decent amount at my HubPages account, so posting my Civil War articles there will increase my readership. If interested: http://nickburchett.hubpages.com/Oh... also, remove the Christian History link as well... I will most likely be moving that soon as well...
I've been in IT for closing in on 20 years. It was exciting and fun in the 90's, but now the changes is so rapid, the need to wear more than one hat (and in most cases 5 or 6) is getting old. I am not only a system admin, but a network admin, application support, virtual environment manager and Blackberry administrator. I get no more money for all those roles and work a LOT of hours. We have a total of 3 "Tier 4" IT Specialists when we really should at least 5. For a while we had to make due with just 2 of us.I hope your future experiences turn out better, but like I said, the past 10 years this has seemed to be the norm... a lot of work, a lot of hours, little support and usually on the receiving end of "it's IT's fault."I'm a GS-11 and I still am just scraping by... Experience means more in the IT world than degrees or certifications, and I have certifications all day long and it really doesn't mean much.Again, I hope it turns out for you. Me personally I am looking forward to retirement from the government and then using my history degree to enjoy life after IT. 😀
That would be my viewpoint as well. If Jackson was being hesitant (which was completely NOT his nature) why would Bee have asked his men to rally behind idle soldiers?Just people trying to stir the pot...
