They get mentioned, very briefly in a couple of classes I took (some US History classes and the upper level Civil War class)… but it seems like they get relegated to the whole Templar/Masons/Illuminati arena… They most certainly existed, but beyond that I think their agenda may never be known… You have people saying the John Wilkes Booth and even Jesse James belonged to the KotGC… I think some of that is myth building propaganda… but again, unless a real document pops up we will never know…

I remember when I joined in 1985…still had some holdover Vietnam sergeants that were still E6's, very poor leadership at the company level and you really only excelled if you had a platoon sergeant, top or CO who gave a crap and forced you to excel. When I was in basic if I looked at a DI wrong he was on me like white on rice… and while he legally couldn't hit me, he found “creative” ways to ensure I got the point. That doesn't happen now and the respect level is gone…It's a younger Army today. CO's that are barely mid-20s… E6's that haven't been in the Army very long, and a LOT of senior NCO's who just don't give a crap anymore because of various policies and no real ability to lead any longer (follow the play-by-play book and be sure to be PC about it).Granted, these guys come out of AIT and head to combat… that most certainly speaks volumes.. but I think that PC has creeped in enough that it is as you say, hollow.

Atlanta was going to fall, so replacing Johnson is a moot point in terms of the effect it had. Sherman was on the move and Johnson would hit and run… no way he could have made a stand in Atlanta… he just did not have the resources… Even with that strategy Sherman was going to take Atlanta no one was going to stop him and I truly believe that regardless of who was in charge of the Confederate Army, Sherman had the resources and momentum and Atlanta was going down before the election regardless. Grant knew this, so did Sherman. I guarantee that all parties involved made it clear to make this victory happen. You have to look at the military side of things…Vietnam and the Civil War are not on the same field… they are not even the same sport…

The day has come, yesterday the repeal of DADT became official and today I final out of the army and sign out on terminal leave.  It has been a good run and rewarding, but I am glad to put that chapter of my life behind me.  ;D Today is the last day I will ever wear my ACU's again. ;D

Thanks for your service Patrick. Good luck on the next chapter!

Wouldn't have mattered.. the South was pretty much done at this point anyway. Replacing Johnson with Hood really was insignificant. The end results were already written on the wall. The Western Theater had been secured by the Union, most of the Trans-Mississippi was also secured by the Union. Grant was pushing from the north, Sherman from the south. The Confederacy was boxed in, losing real estate rapidly, soldiers returning home and little to no backup troops.1863 might have been a different story, but 1864 the move was inconsequential.

Semi-off topic, but Patrick, if I am reading you right you are saying that regardles, because of the manpower resources that the Union had the South had zero chance regardless? If so, could that same scanrio play out in modern terms? China has a pretty unlimited source of bodies to throw at it's military… that being that case could they be unbeatable due to this ability to replenish their numbers longer than almost any opponent?

Actually the term “Blue Moon” comes from their being more than 3 full moons in a Lunar season.

Wonder if that is a reference to the “blue” note in a musical scale, which is the third? And if so, why the significance of “blue” unless possibly related to the “blue blood” thing? Hmmm…

The only similarities between Obama and Lincoln is Presidential “Carte Blanche” of the office and abuse of the Constitution.Obama has thin skin and only gets an inkling of the grief Lincoln got. Plus, Lincoln was trying to preserve the Union, Obama is trying to replace it.So much wrong with the political system and it has snowballed out of control. This comment by Obama is proof positive of that.

I have felt a few from the New Madrid fault here in MO, but thankful we didn't feel anything here in Missouri…would have made it worse for the folks in Virginia.

Interesting write-up.  How long did the reenactment last?

Not long… about an hour…. They had skirmishes throughout the day and another reenactment later in the day.Trying to play football on a baseball diamond is what it felt like…it can be done somewhat, but it just isn't the same…Next up is the Battle of Lexington MO on 17 September… VERY interesting battle and story… Small battlefield and I am sure they will hold the reenactment on the field… The great thing about living in Missouri is all these battles that took place early on…

I say unless there is some DNA match this will go unsolved… Next up, Jimmy Hoffa…  ::)People just cashing in on the bandwagon… D.B. Cooper makes it to the news with some “new evidence” and all the people with the last name “Cooper” start coming out and saying they are related…Honestly, if you are going to use an alias would you just change your first name? If he really is Larry Cooper or whatever, why would you buy a ticket and change “LArry” to “Dan”?? I think you would probably change COOPER! Duh!  So all these people coming forward who think the man who hijacked the planes last name is Cooper should second guess being related to him, because if he didn't change his last name, he was an idot and the apples don't fall far from the tree! 😀
