Sorry, folks. I didn't realize this thread was about two specific movies, I though it was a "what movies are you looking forward to" type thread. I'll pay attention next time. 😛
Oh don't worry about that! Any historical movie is game. Otherwise if this thread is only about two movies it wouldn't last that long.
Oh ok I didn't realize that it was Clive Cussler's group that discovered it. From what I have heard his life-imitates-art plan is actually producing some good results. It's called NUMA after the NUMA from his fictional books, right?
I hadn't heard of that movie, but I see now it's about Iwo Jima. I saw The Illusionist the other day at the theater. It was an interesting period piece with some good acting and a decent storyline. From what I understand at least some of the tricks are based on actual tricks done by historical magicians.
I think that the Crusades are largely misunderstood nowadays. The circumstances of the Crusades appear to parallel in some ways the current situation with Muslim vs. Christian relations in the world today.
Now that I consider it I wonder – if some pestilence had hit cotton crops in the early 19th Century, would slavery have remained as popular as it was, dwindled down in popularity, or ceased altogether? From what I understand cotton crops were really the driving force behind the use of slaves.
The CAPTCHA plugin is the most foolproof so far. The self-registration didn't work all that well because they would still sign up even if they don't post. I'd prefer a completely spam-free forum, if that's possible. 🙂
Donnie, that's an interesting account of your great grandmother. I wonder if our European ancestors (the common folk, not the bourgeoise) acted in a similar manner. It's not a good sign when we take luxury for granted. It lead to apathy, an attitude of carelessness and indestructibility, and a “me me” disposition which demands entitlements under the name of “rights”. I sometimes wonder what the Romans were like in attitude during the years before their downfall began.
I'm not sure how people move about. I think sometimes people come and go and then come back after a while. If you can find history blogs that people can comment on, please let me know. I haven't found all that many in the past.
Rejoice! The tide is turning in the Spammer Wars! I installed a CAPTCHA feature a couple of weeks ago, and since then the number of spammers signing up on this forum has dropped dramatically. Not only that, but I continue to monitor when spammers with banned IP addresses or e-mail addresses try to sign up. I have noticed that this has been trickling down quite a bit lately. Now, a few days are skipped between tries. I think this just might be a positive sign that we are winning....then again, perhaps it's a trick to let our guard down 😀 . What would Sun Tzu say in a situation like this?
But which would have had a higher standard of living? Surely you can't dismiss advances in agriculture, metalworking, and masonry that gave the medievals advantages over the Romans…
Nope it's still denying me access to download. I can see the pictures in the posts, but I can't download them from the link. You're toying with the plebes again aren't you emperor? 🙂
Oh, ok, I thought the problem was that they weren't showing for you at all. I didn't mean for anyone to actually download them, but just to see them. If you really want a copy, just right click and save it to your computer!
