I think that talk of impeachment is not only stupid but counter-productive. Impeachment itself is political and will go nowhere as long as Democrats hold the Senate. The important thing I think is for Republicans to maintain control of the House to stymie Obama's legislative agenda and force him to go back to his pen as he has been doing. Obama's reliance on EO and regulatory rewrites has exposed him and Democrats for the anti-democratic people they are. Democrats are doing a very good job of destroying their own brand right now and I think Republicans should let them. That being said, I am not certain that enough people realize the full implications of how much damage Obama's executive actions are doing to the notion of American Democracy. I think that we are on the road to a national showdown about government, it's role, and it's power. I also think that showdown will be ugly although I am not sure if violence is in the offing. The constitutional crisis is here, I just do not think it is 100% ripe yet.
Most LNG in Germany does not go to home heating either, it goes to power plants. LNG loss will not affect heating except that it may cause brownouts which will put the electrical systems running people's furnaces offline at times. Yea!! for my non-electric wood stove.
Germany gets roughly 70% of its Natural Gas from Russia. They have enough strategic reserves to last one winter maybe two if they are not severe. Any interruption of supply will severely affect prices though.
We had a wood stove installed in the house this spring because we had a chimney that was not being used and I have been bugging my wife about it since we bought the house. The Russian threats to cut off LNG supplies over Ukraine convinced her that we need to have a method of heating that is not dependent on foreign supply because we have a gas furnace. Hence, I get to get a workout. The wood we have now should last us two winters if I am figuring right.
I was going to say I am going to use a handsaw but I tried it and that sucks so yes, the chainsaw will be coming out but I am going to split it all by hand.
The roar in my little town when the final whistle was blown was unreal. Something else that is spooky is that during the game, every time I went outside I saw and heard absolutely no traffic. I would guess that close to 90% of Germans watched the game.
Mine is an abbey beer called Abbaye-Abdij Val-Dieu it is a beer we picked up in March when we were in Belgium. We got a six pak of various beers from that abbey and that is the last one I have left, at least until my next trip.
