ParticipantYou never know, who would have guessed such obvious propaganda as Fahrenheit 9/11 would do so well?

ParticipantHere is a kind of an update: Why Gladiator 2 Never HappenedApparently the screenplay was horrible.

ParticipantI will be interested to hear what the response is. iPhones and such are the gadgets all the “cool” kids have to have after all and the left thinks of themselves as nothing if not cool.

ParticipantThe Army has a “diversity office” as well. It's efforts usually amused me as it tried to justify it's existence by coming up with the craziest plans to increase “awareness.”

ParticipantI believe with regard to begging the relvant phrase is “cap in hand” not handicap. Given that my great-grandfather fought in the Indian Wars I am pretty cool with “hold down the fort” as a phrase. As a matter of fact, i am going to start using these phrases more often so they are not lost in a fit of PC foolishness. The PC crowd ARE the modern Thought Police.
"Choose your words thoughtfully," Robinson wrote. "Now that you know the possible historical context of the above phrases, perhaps you will understand why someone could be offended by their use. "
No, I really think people should just get over it, they have done enough damage to the language already.

ParticipantJust watched Eastwood's speech at the RNC. Great speech and he had a bunch of pretty good zingers in there. I knew he was a great actor, I did not know he was such a good political speaker.

ParticipantIt uses the same USB plug as my Kindle.Just because environmentalists use them won't stop them from complaining. They have not been afraid of being hypocrites before, why should they start worrying about it now?

ParticipantI think there is a place for historiography, and that place is in the academy. Historiography is important for the craft and art of history. I actually learned a lot in the two historiography classes I had to take for my MA. I am also glad I took them. I learned some things I want to emulate in my own writing and also some things I would prefer to avoid. My deep seated loathing for post-modern thought also dates from those two classes.

ParticipantI sometimes think the current 3rd world would be much better off if colonialism had not ended when it did. It is certain that most ex colonies are apparently unable to bootstrap themselves and their people to prosperity the way the decolonizers said they would be able to. It should surprise no-one but it does surprise some people that tribal people revert back to their tribal roots when colonial administrators go back to the mother country.

ParticipantThey failed to fully mobilize until so late that they couldn't make a difference in the outcome of the war. One good example is war material output, especially weapons. The south never did fully rationalize weapons production leaving them dependent on blockade runners to make up deficiencies in their small arms equipment. This complicated logistics as they were unable to standardize one caliber and had as many as 8 different calibers of weapon in some field armies.

ParticipantRon Paul supporters a large portion of the base? Vocal maybe but certainly not a large portion. His supporters are at most 10-15% of the base. Sounds like the Paulites are having a case of sour grapes to me.

ParticipantMost of the leftist argument against the British Empire concerns India. I strongly believe that without Great Britain, India would be a third world cesspool Muslim nation no different than Afghanistan.
You are probably right. Colonialism gave India a foundation upon which to build and they have been smart enough to use it. The Indians still have major structural problems but they are struggling hard to fix them and do it in a way that benefits their entire people.

ParticipantMahan was a historian not a historiographer.

ParticipantI have just started plugging it in every time I am sitting at my computer. At least as long as my Kindle is not charging, but I only charge my Kindle once a month anyway.I wonder how long it will take some environmentalist group to decry smartphones as destroyers of the environment for the amount of energy they consume?

ParticipantJust look at what has happened to the nations of the commonwealth since Britain gave up direct rule and the case makes itself.
