They do have a Marine Archaeology major. Not sure if it's graduate school though. I still like history a lot, but I don't see employment in that field unless I go for a PhD. With Marine Biology there are jobs in this area for it, and I would contemplate moving as well (Florida Keys..oh yes!). Plus the Wood's Hole Oceanographic Institute in Hyannis always has job openings. Most for people with post-grad degrees, but a few for those with a BS. I would love to find a volunteer opportunity/internship, if there are any, studying or tagging these Great Whites in Cape Cod. Plus Wood's Hole always has internship positions available. Only thing is science is not a strong area for me, except biology. But if I can get past all the physics and chemistry courses I'll have to take, maybe I can do it. It is definitely not an easy major, that's for sure. But on the plus side, at URI many of the courses are hands on in the field..well, the ocean.
No. But I did speak with a history dept head a while back when I was thinking of transferring from AMU. If I majored in history at URI, they would take most of my credits. Since I have more credits now, and more history courses, they might not not take them all but maybe they'll apply most towards my general ed requirements and that would free me up to just work on Marine Biology major courses.
I voted for the war which occurred in 1066. i believe this actually synced the Brittish as and empire.
I do not agree. The British didn't have anything even close to an empire until about the 1600's.
They founded the US through tyranism toward the very subjects who wrote the very first workable constitution and this tyranism lead to a tiny small group of mixed lead colonist with many diversified ideas, religions and cultures to band together and fight for one simple right which was the freedom to have a say in their own affairs.
Again, disagree. The US was not founded by the British, it was founded by the colonists. And the reason for the mix in religion, ideas, and cultures was because the early Americans came from different European nations.Seems you're giving the British more credit than they deserve (when it comes to North America).
I wonder if it's not mainstream because all people think about are the 13 British colonies and the Revolution. I don't think too many people realize the back and forth that went on between European nations the prior 100 or so years. Just look at New York for example.
Am I right in thinking this kind of thing is what you guys have in mind whe you talk about Martial Law? FEMA and DHS cops in jackboots rounding people up and throwing them in camps for using the wrong words or not donating to the right charities or even expressing unnaproved political opinions.
Can't speak for the others, but that's not what I'm saying. All I'm saying is DHS, thanks to the Patriot Act, have all authority to do whatever they want. They can declare a disaster area and then have FEMA takeover - that would include the control of food, water, movement, banking, etc.; they can take land or property if they deem it an emergency situation; they can stop all boating activity(the USCG is now under DHS); they can force the people of large cities (ahem Boston) to stay off the streets or risk getting arrested or enter homes without any type of warrant whatsoeverall without Congressional or Constitutional authority. Is tyranny here? No. But it ain't far away.
I remember that, but then when I read it more it wasn't that bad anti American (MSNBC, etc. where worse). They have an anti-Israel bias, but it wasn't that bad, and often it was an opposing view up for debate rather than hate speech. They also published some pro American foreign policy pieces.
Wow, I guess overweight, lazy slobs are the most well adjusted, healthiest among us, who knew?
I was never that obsessed with food intake, although I'm concerned much more now with what I eat. I'm not a big proponent of supplements either, except protein. But I only use that as a supplement to help counter the muscle loss that allegedly occurs in men over 40. One guy at the health store where I buy my protein is kind of a pain telling me how/when I should take it, how many other supplements I should take, and blah blah blah. When I told him my main nutrients come from good food, he told me I was wrong. One day I just got agravated at him and said to the guy "dude, when you're 53, still go the gym every day, bench 225 and do 100+ pullups on your back day let me know how those ABC's of supplements have worked out for you." My problem, although I never really considered it a problem as this is what keeps pushing me, is that I always felt I was never big enough. I don't want to look like a bodybuilder, but hey, I'm a short guy, I need big arms to look intimidating. 🙂 As for it consuming my life, well I do think about the gym all day and what I'll be doing. Plus it gives me somethign to look forward to because I know I'm going to have a good workout and a blast with my buddy. It's the best part of my day.
I would tell you that the way to lose weight is diet and cardio not lifting which would tend to slim you but most fat loss will be offset by gain in muscle mass.
I agree, but muscle also burns fat. If someone is trying to slim down only, I would say emphasize cardio, but if their goal is fat loss (as opposed to weight loss) I would strongly recommend a weight lifting program.
I don't look down on people who spend lots of time at the gym. I just wonder why they feel they have to do it.
Some of us older dudes have to lift more to maintain any gains. When I was younger, I could get a good workout in and still feel "pumped" the next day. I could also take 2-3 days in a row off without much difference. Not so much anymore. Also depends on ones workout routine. I do one body part a day, so my time each day in the gym can be cut back but I'll go 5-6 times a week. Some people only go 3 times a week and hit multiple muscle groups therefore the spend more time there. It's a good addiction. And it feels great still being able to outlift and outlast these younger guys in the gym. Plus it's part of my social life. My new workout partner has become one of my best friends.
I don't care about the politics of the area I just want to know where these things are breeding. The number of them increases every year or two since they've invaded.
