WWI, WWII? Also nations during colonization and decolonization. They were at war with their colonies and/or against each other, all to protect their free market assets. I'm not being anti-capitalist here, it's just the way it is.
Another thing about what Smith believed was that as universal opulence increased through the free market, countries would be more prone to peace since they would have a greater stake in protecting their property.
I think history has proven this wrong.
Also, Smith may have believed that less-industrialized nations were more of a threat to industrialized ones.
I don't think Smith is saying this. He's saying that an agrarian society could more easily wage war, not necessarily win war.
I agree with you, but I stil think the Repubs shouldn't go that route. They are just ALWAYS on the defensive. The Left started all this class warfare garbage with the media hammering it home, and as usual the Right falls into to trap of having to use the same vocabulary. Republicans should completely ignore any class references because by addressing it, they are legitimizing what the Democrats are saying instead of correcting the falsehoods.
The GLBT's are the biggest bullies (which is ironic seeing that they cry the most about bullying), so that school better watch out.
I'd laugh if the new Pope is more strict than this one. When Pope Benedict was chosen, was he declared a “favorite?”
I think it's interesting that he was able to transport it from Boston to India. He had to cross the equator at some point.
