Yeah, it means something like that. Their families were paid well. I guess my question is, if it was loyalty to the Emperor, was the Emperor considered a religious leader for Japan at that time or just a military leader? So far, the only difference I see is kamikazes were more nationalists where Islamic suicide bombers are more for the whole of Islam. (someone can come from Syria and blow himself up in Iraq and still be considered a hero, because they fought the "infidels")
I saw it a few months ago. It was good, bette than I thought it would be. I got the same feeelingabout it too. Not only an apathy, but a carelessness as well. That's Hollywood. :-
This is a good topic. We should have made a game out of this where we give clues to the city where we live based on its history and other people try to guess the place. For me, I currently live a few blocks from the longest stretch of residential Victorian homes in (I think) North America. Two or three homes down the street is the house where F. Scott Fitzgerald was born (so I'm told), and homes and buildings by Cass Gilbert (same person who designed the U.S. Supreme Court building) are in the area.
St Paul? I visited Minneapolis once a few years ago.
On a side note, I thought I heard recently that one of Al Gore's claims in his movie - that water levels would rise by some 40 feet in so many years - was a claim that even IPPC scientists had dismissed as exaggeration because the real rise would be a mere fraction of this (a foot or perhaps a few feet, I think the number was). Anyone heard this?
Yes, but I believe he said 20 feet. Some scientists are saying anywhere from a few inches to no more than 2 feet.Has anyone noticed lately the number of scientists coming and speaking out against this. Nearly all of them say (complain) how political the IPCC process has been. Many even mention that, to achieve our "goal" of curing the planet, you'd have to eliminate 90% of the population. Nice. 😐

Is this why I have Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse in Congress? 😮 😀Seriously, Wilfred Greene seems to be exaggerating a little, wouldn't you say?Should go check this out, so come on down! But there are a lot of piles of rocks all over the place, and a lot of old stone walls.
I will eventually, but I have to take one of these classes first. No Africa? hmmm. I'm sort of leaning towards World History so I can learn a little about China, there are some classes involving them later on.(and I mean no offense to a board called The Western Civ Forum :-D)
Yes, I've been there a few times. There's some strange stories about it's origins….vikings, Indians, even aliens. What's realy cool too, right behind it is this old mansion/castle with an old vineyard and non-working windmill. It's all gutted, but it was fun to explore.
