The ramifications of not doing this will be much, much worse. True, we can't be complacent and must study it further, but let's not jump to conclusions or let paranoia of these new laws overtake common sense. Perhaps this is part of the sacrificing we must do for this war. Not so much sacrifice freedoms, but realize that certain actions one takes may cause some concern with the authorities.
I don't know. I think there will be enough people screaming if they start messing with gun ownership. No matter what, I think it's only a matter of time before "assault" weapons get banned anyway.
`(A) a member of the regular forces of a State party engaged in hostilities against the United States;`(B) a member of a militia, volunteer corps, or organized resistance movement belonging to a State party engaged in such hostilities, which are under responsible command
One more question. What are alternative ways to catch terroists that are hiding among us? Do we just let it happen? And, how does the 2nd amendment come in to play here? Most would say that having a citizen militia will take care of things. I'd like to know how a gunowner in Cleveland is going to stop a terrorist cell on Boston from detonating a nuclear bomb?
I'm in agreement with whatever Phid wants to do with this. I put it in Recent American History in case anyone is interested in a discussion about the Patriot Act. I'll wait until Phid decides whether or not to proceed. I apologize if this is the inappropriate forum to discuss this.
You're into conspiracy theories lately, huh Phid?It could have been an accident, but I doubt it. From the wikepedia entry it says Israel asked the US if we had any ships in the vicinity and we said no. (I'd like to know who said that). Israel warned all ships to stay away. I wonder if it was an inside job to cause hostility between Israel and the U.S. Where there any indictments issued over this?
Using psychological tactics on a society or a militia is interesting. It is “sinister”, but the goal is a benefit too all. LSD wouldn't work to get a functioning society going, but if you spiked the insurgents with a mind alterating drug (other than the cocaine they are allegedly using now) they'd be easy to get.I wonder what other tactics they used and if we're still using some of them now.
Good idea. Not sure when. As Phid said, the cherry blossom season gets crowded, so it may not be that time. Let me know when you're going. Maybe Phid or others can join us as well. Make it a Western Civ DC-fest.
Can the sensation be ignored? I would imagine this is just as bad as a taser. It's only use militarily is to make them drop the weapon and give troops enough time to control the situation.Only downfall I see (read about) is, since the temperature is only 130 degrees, it may not be as effective in desert areas where people are used to that type of heat.
Thank you, Phid! That's excellent information. I've been there twice, but not for a long time, and both times it was just day trips. Once I just went to the National Gallery of Art and saw some of the monuments real quick. Another time, I went to the Natural History museum and the Air and Space Museum. One day was not even close to being enough time. The spy museum sounds interesting, the American History museum website says it's closed until 2008 :-(, and I'm guessing that's where all the military history is?I'm driving down, so I'll just drive to Arlington and Quantico. I'm thinking 3 days could do some justice. Plus I'll be alone so I don't have see anything I don't want. 😀
LOL. Yes, my name is really Juan Carlos, not Ken. Actually, the web page shows the Arizona plant. I don't believe there are any pictures of RI on there.
Wish I could say the same for the union guys in my company. My problem with them is the seniority issue, although management is at fault for letting them get away with as much as they do.Thinking about the health care issue: It is so expensive now, and many unions have contracts demanding the companies still pay 100% of it, and I think that is hurting a lot of companies.
I work for a defense supplier, not contractor (although in a way we are, as my company Pilgrim Screw is one of only 2 or 3 manufacturers who the major defense contractors are authorized to buy from). We sell some stuff directly to the Army, AF, and Navy. But mostly Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Honeywell, and Sikorsky. We make screws, bolts, and fasteners and a few specialty items that we've designed.
