While the world's attention is focused on Natanz, Iranian scientists and military personnel could be working on a secret enrichment program at one or more unknown sites that is much more advanced, the diplomats, who demanded anonymity in exchange for discussing restricted information, said.
I heard on the news that it was us (the US) who leaked this to the press, so that they won't do this. I hope they don't, it's too soon. Let the sanctions take effect, the citizens of Iran will pressure the regime to stop. If they don't stop there will be an uprising, then….who knows.
Not exactly sure what you mean by this question. I think the Iraqis will write their own history. Hopefully their history books will mention how much the United States has helped them achieve freedom, democracy, and economic prosperity. Also, I hope their history books will mention how privatizing oil was a good idea so that they can sell at $40/barrel to those who helped them achieve this. 😀
I do agree that some use religion to (literally) get away with murder. There are those “Christians” who use the Bible to try and justify their blowing up abortion clinics. That, IMO, is wrong. Many of the Left think the "Religious Right" has hijacked the government. (whatever they mean by that??). But, fundamentalist Islam, those who follow the Koran literally, are, for the most part, the religious leaders of Islam. Aren't many of them also terrorist leaders? My point or questioning of this here was not to judge others' religion, but to say those who follow Islam to the letter are the terrorists or terrorist leaders. From what I know of the Koran (which isn't much), they are justified to do what they do according to what's written.
Phid, interesting point about the religious freedom. Stumpfoot made a good point too about wealth taking priority over that. I read there's quite a few strip clubs and casinos in Dubai…although that doesn't exactly make a righteous nation, I bet it keeps a lot of people happy. That's very liberal for a predominantly Muslim nation. Although Saudi Arabia is rich, isn't a majority of the income just going to the regime and oil cartel instead of being invested in the country? (similar to Iran).
I wonder what is preventing our defeat of the insurgents. I wonder how much the Iraqis themselves are at fault here....not individual Iraqis, but Iraqis as a whole. I think it's likely that there are groups of them who support the insurgents. Otherwise, how could people like Zarqawi have gone on for such a long time after the U.S. arrived?
I think the Iraqis live in great fear of helping us. But if we did more of this:
From what I understand, this was done with brute force; in other words, swift and extensive punishment for even relatively small infractions.
Are you going to take the langauge courses after you join?
I was thinking of just doing it on my own. Depends on how quickly the process moves. If I'm going in like 30 days after enlisting, then I won't have time to take a course.
