Other than the ocean flooding some of the state now because it's high tide, it looks like the brunt of it is over. Never lost power here but there were a lot of outages in the region. Southern RI, Newport got hit pretty bad. I didn't drive around to see if trees were down in my area.Who knows, there might be rowing tomorrow after all.
So far so good. The biggest gusts up here in my area have been about 50mph. The last hurricane was much worse as far as wind goes (so far). Hear they are getting near 90mph in southern RI and MA. The news channels are showing some nasty videos along the coast. Just hope I can keep power for at least another hour or two. Was planning to bake (electric stove) some salmon for supper. High tide at 8pm. Still think the biggest damage will be flooding from the tidal surge. The weathermen are saying the worst will be over by 9 tonight.
I think the mid-Atlantic is getting the worst of this. At work now, still not too bad up here in New England yet. I did drive by the river yesterday at low tide and it did seem quite high for low tide and a little rough. Probably looks much worse today. Planning to drive by it on the way home. I think there will be some possible major coastal flooding from the surge. Hopefully the winds won't be so bad. But it hasn't made landfall anywhwere yet.
They're telling us to secure all loose items in your yard including campaign posters. So being the good neighbor that I am, I drove around earlier and removed all the Obama signs. You're welcome. ;D
It's actually not looking that bad, it's a big storm but not one of the strongest I've experienced. I guess it depends where it hits. I just hope this is a usual case of overhype…because if they are correct, my state may truly become Rhode ISLAND.
Is Rhode Island an Obama state? I never hear about it as a battleground state, so I suspect it's already in the bank for Obama.
I'm guessing yes, but I don't think it will be as hugely pro-Obama as last time. RI is a Democrat state, more union, blue-dog type. A lot of Catholics too. We also have one of the worst unemployment in the country. This will be interesting. What's surprising me (if the local polls are any indication) is how close the Congressional races are. Sheldon Whitehouse...or Seldom Righthouse as we Republicans call him here...is not far ahead of the opponent. The problem with the Republican opponent is he didn't get his name out there soon enough...unless doing it now at the end is his strategy. In their debate, he (Barry Hinkley) made Sheldon look like an idiot. And his recent ad is devastating IMO.Maine is up in the air, NH recently flipped for Romney, CT is a close call. The only lost cause in New England is Massachusetts...but I am curious to see what happens with the Warren-Brown race.
I just think if Obama is reelected, that means the people of this country have chosen sin (killing babies, laziness, selfishness). I haven't given up on society yet. I've been meeting too many people that “see the light” and the horrible nature of the Progresse Left.I think common sense is going to prevail in this election. Hope so anyway. And I still think the possibility of a landslide for RR is high. I think the reporting of these allegedly close polls are cover for Obama.
