ModeratorI think that's different. They weren't “owned” by any particular person or museum.

ModeratorI don't particularly disagree with you, Aeth, about cultural property. However, I still think they are in a safe place…as are many Egyptian treasures spread in museums throughout the world.Besides, isn't it benficial that people globally get to see things they normally wouldn't or couldn't? Not everyone can get to Greece or Egypt. (but Boston MFA is only an hour away). Should Boston or NYC return every piece of art to their country of origin? What I think is all these Parthenon marbles should be in one place, whether that be Greece or England. As for cleaning and pollution, wasn't this the case in practically every museum until modern cleaning methods and improvements?
Do you really think that parts of their National treasures would be in danger ?
It could and IMO that possibility is high. Not every foreign national in Greece is loyal to Greek culture and these OWS types aren't exactly respectful of others' property. And what's your opinion about artifacts in Egypt being destroyed during their 'Arab Spring?'

ModeratorThey've been safe in the British Museum for decades. They should just stay there.

ModeratorThe Democrats have never disgusted me like they do now.

ModeratorI kind of agree with donroc, Palin is irrelevant as far as she'll never be in office again. I don't think she'll go away anytime soon, and I hope she doesn't. She attacks the left very well and often in a humorous way. She still gets them all riled up. 😀 If Romney wins, and Republicans win Congress, she could be good support (and will hopefully speak up when they're wrong).

ModeratorMost of the leftist argument against the British Empire concerns India. I strongly believe that without Great Britain, India would be a third world cesspool Muslim nation no different than Afghanistan.

ModeratorI cannot think of a single historiogaphical work or author who has been influential outside the circle of academic historians.
Mahan? Wilhelm II wanted every German naval officer to read and study his book. He strongly influenced Germany's naval policy as he did other nations (like the US) prior to WWI, the exception being France. He also influenced Japan's policies prior to the Russo-Japanese War.

ModeratorWent to bed during Huckabee.Saw McCain's speech. Although he made some good attacks on Obama, he concerns me. I am totally against his stance on getting the job done in Afghanistan. What would McCain like? More of our guys murdered by the Afghans they trained? Get our guys out of there now!!! Maimed and dead soldiers are not worth the sacrifice for a toilet bowl like that country is and always will be. Afghanistan is not Iraq. After reading Condi's speech transcript, I wish I stayed up for that. Maybe youtube will have her and Ryan's speeches later. Also saw part of Ann Romney's speech Tuesday. Very well done.

ModeratorMaybe a better analogy would be a coxswain on an 8 man rowing crew? He doesn't row, but he still gets a medal if they win.
