ParticipantMost madmen are very charismatic. If they were “mad” all the time how would they gain followers? This movie did portray him at times nice and somwhat charming, but at others you could see he was going off the deep end.

ParticipantThough what a shame it would have been when the founding fathers would all have been hung by the British. I believe it would have taken a while for the next attempt.

ParticipantThere was a recent one on Lincoln that insinuated he was gay…I cant remember the title though.

ParticipantHow different would the world be today had there been no American Revolution or we had lost? Most significant? Maybe not, but it ranks up there in the top ten at least.

ParticipantI read a book on John Smith called “Jamestown and the birth of the American Dream” by Thomas and Dorothy Hoobler…in it they insiuated that he was gay because he had never taken a wife. I was very frustrated with this book after that. I dont think I will read anymore by them.

ParticipantI think you nailed it with the stress factor. One of the number one killers today. I grew up out in the country/mountains and can tell you its a lot more stressful in suberbia than it is out in the rurals.

ParticipantIt was October, 2006 and the fall colors were awsome. I agree Donald. I think I mentioned this in another thread but the bus loads of kids they brought out were so disrespecful, yelling at each other running around climbing on the cannons and memorials, it drove me nuts. Has anyone else here been to Gettysburg? If not, it is one of the must visit places in this country as far as I'm concerned. I would love to go back, kids or no kids.

ParticipantGrants plan was war of attrition, he knew he could outlast Lee in both man power and resources…Now if only he could get it done before the people in the north grew tired of the bloodshed and called for a truce.

ParticipantInteresting. Reuben Branson was your ancestor? That's who Wikipedia says was the postmaster in the 1880s. I had heard of Branson before but I wouldn't have known that it was so small these days....less than 7000 people.
Its a tourist trap/destination now. We are also related to the Youngers who were cousins of the James boys....You know how it is, all them hillfolk are related some how or another. ;D
