ParticipantSince we are talking about globalization we can probably discuss the U.N. as the next world power.

ParticipantWell I know one thing, those parents who do home schooling overwhelmingly seek after books from the 1950's to teach their children. I wonder why? 😉
There are a lot of things now days that kids shouldnt be taught.

ParticipantIt should never have happened. Burr was ruined after he Killed Hamilton.

ParticipantArthur was said to live about 150 years after Alfred. Just about enough time for a legend to grow.

ParticipantDonnies scenario reminds me of the British empire of the past. They too had too settle down and for go there status as a super power, but they did so with out collapsing. But strange things happen and they can happen very quickly as we all are very well aware history is hard to predict.

ParticipantThey said that at the end of WW1 there were about 200,000 enrolled in high school nationwide and by 1930 there were over 2 million. I believe that the curriculum was no doubt a lot more conservative then, then it is now. I wonder if the liberal turn in the last few decades had anything to do with the comeback of evolution in schools?

ParticipantI was watching the news today and started thinking about this thread. It seems Israel may be threatening to take out Iran's Nuclear facilities and the thought is if that happens then the middle east will become involved in a full blown war. What do you think will happen if this comes about? How will it change the U.S. policy in Iraq? What do you think the U.S.'s involvement should be? And, God forbid, Israel resorts to it's nuclear arsenal against Iran what then?

Participant1815 : Jackson leads troops to victory at New OrleansOn this day in 1815, General Andrew Jackson and his troops win the decisive Battle of New Orleans in the waning moments of the War of 1812. Although the war had officially ended two weeks earlier with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, news of the treaty had not yet reached the United States from Europe and military clashes between the British and the Americans continued. After a three-year struggle against superior British land and naval forces, the outnumbered American Army and Marines succeeded in preventing the British from gaining a foothold in the southern territories of Louisiana and western Florida.

ParticipantWhat? How can you say that? Cain is a great actor. I've never heard him do any bad American accents. Second hand Lions is a good example of a great texas accent.
Stumpfoot
ParticipantI agree. Michael Cain is a good example of what your talking about.

ParticipantIslam is not a religion of peace. Many could say that Christianity is not as well. But at least the argument could be made hat those who murder in the name of God are not following Christs example or his teaching. Again I don't know much about Islam or the Koran but if it does say that all unbelievers should be killed then an argument could be made that the true believers (those who take it literally) promote terrorism.

ParticipantSpeilberg is making a movie about Lincoln and will star Liam Nesson in the title roll. I really like Liam Neeson (I dont know if thats the correct spelling or not) But as Lincoln? It might work. I still think Gregory Peck was the best Lincoln.

ParticipantI beleive there will be many versions, within Iraq itself and here in this country as well (and many are already evolving) And Donald you are right there are many who will get their book deals and make the rounds of the talk shows to beat us over the head with their versions of events in Iraq.
