4-6 times per year… Alice in Wonderland last… pretty good and the 3D added to the experience. Needs to be something I want to see, I tend to discount the HYP.
....The founders were some pretty slick guys and knew exactly what they were writing. They have come right out and said that we can own guns. They seem to imply that it is the duty of a good citizen to own one. Or am I reading it wrong?
My favorite Jefferson quote is about how to interpret the Constitution... he writes that one must consider the time and events when it was written... that consideration leads me to this view of the principles behind the 2nd Amendment:We had just fininshed getting our freedom from a government that:a) tried to limit our ability to defend ourselves,b) used "our" army against the citizens, additionally,c) Militia, at the time, was defined as the "citizens" (by standards of the time),d) a Militia that was well regulated often meant "well armed" in those days,e) it was in the best interest of the States to have protection... (both from the Native population and, potentially, the government)f) the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (or Locke's property) will be assured (and insured) by the God given right to bear armsAs I've posted in other threads, it is my belief that the Bill of Rights is a sign post to remind us what the AmRev was about and why we need to be ever watchful and protective of our rights.Scout, your comment about being a good citizen is the key issue on the issue of "qualifications"... the limitation of this right to a person that breaks the law or is deemed a threat to the larger community seems the only logical limit on that right. The people cannot be restricted because of an individual but that individual could be restricted. JMHO. I'm the NRA --and I vote.

Looks good if I could get passed the overlay that says it doesn't support Explorer 6; would I like to upgrade? I run IE8 and updated earlier today, what gives? ???
... What would happen if I was going 10 miles over the speed limit--technically breaking the law? Would they then be able to deny paying for any damages as I was in a state of "disobedience"?
My Spidey sense says, yes.
I am also advised that companies and some people have fitted their automobiles with GPS devices so that they can keep track of not only the speed of the vehicle when driven by employees or family members, but also where they have been or where they are at any given moment. Oh what a horrid thing!
Trucking companies have been doing this for awhile, I believe.
Would not the law enforcement community want these devices in every car thus cutting down on theft and having the ability to issue citations without the necessity of hiring officers to catch speeders?
Onstar (c) will get you a discount because it is easy to track the car if stolen; however, I see too many Constitutional hurdles to get 100% compliance, for something like this, anytime soon (I hope I do at least).
Lord Acton's commentary about power seems apt here.
1 and 3 are correct. Very good. #2 is Pope Leo XIII (clue should, btw, have read A second book… if this made the difference my apologies. Leo was in 1887 along with several other books that while forgotten today may have done better at the time.Mark Twain, Publisher
Along the thread tree questions I heard this morning on the radio.1) To whom did Twain dedicate his first book and why?2) Twain made a load of money publishing Grant's autobiography. The second book he published was a bomb... who was the subject of that book?3) Twain was something of an inventor, in fact he had a patent for an improvement to a rather mundane item; what was the item he improved?
Being the type of person I am I agree here, knowing is good; knowing where to look to find out is better.Einstein, according to legend, had to look up his own phone number when an assistant asked for it. "Why would I clutter my mind with my telephone number when it is in a book that is located near every telephone? Besides, I rarely have cause to call myself at home and even if I did, it is unlikely I'd be there to answer." 😉
:-[Sorry, I forget that my habit (developed while teaching) of checking wiki every day for events and other factoids (that could used for sponge activities at the beginning of class) isn't normal behavior for most folks.
