Might just be another tantalizing tidbits that keep us wondering if all that is known has been revealed. Then again, she might have wanted to escape the glare of fame (infamy, some might say) that connection to this iconic event would have brought her. I am enough of a conspiracy-type to assume the former, and though the latter is possible, many will just ignore the idea of more info than we've been allowed.
Not sure to whom the question is addressed, but no; personal culture* is pretty much 10 / 90, visible behaviors v. invisible values, no matter your stripe.*see below in red...I. Culture-- two distinct (and distinctive) parts; why you can't tell a book by it's cover: 1. Behaviors-- these are the things we see; what a person they wears, how they act and talk, what kinds of food they eat... things that are readily visible. These items only make up about10% of culture. 2. Values-- these are the things we cannot see; what a person thinks aboutpolitics, religion, or the death penalty, what they believe in... things thatwe cannot determine by just looking at someone.Sometimes outward behaviors may give us a clue to a person's valuesbut this is not really a good gauge; often style will dictate a behavioris really counter to the underlying value. These invisible values accountfor 90% of culture.II. Culture-- unique; w/in society, w/in individualscolor=black]this is personal culture[/color: 1. Background: Where you or your family came from, what it was likeand what you or they did there... not the same for everyone is it? 2. Circumstances: What your life is like now, where you live, what kindof job you have, what your family is like, whatever goes on around you... again different for almost everyone, eh? 3. Experiences: While you will, likely, share backgroundand circumstances with your family members; you will not, always, have experiences as they do. You will be constantly exposed tonew and different situations and people that will modify yourpersonal culture, this accounts for why we can be a uniqueindividual within both our family and the larger society. No onewill have exactly the same mix of background, circumstances, and experiences as you do, not even if that person was yourtwin brother or sister.I have taken the liberty of including more from the Culture lesson I used to do with the kids... it may be enlightening or may only demonstrate what I foolishly tried to do to improve things... in my little corner of the world, at least. FWIW.
I wonder why Ronald Reagan photo is illustrating the Recent American History post ....... if you really want to illustrate the recentness of American History, choose Obama: he will stay in History whatever his legacy will be...(If you dare 😛 )
Not sure I agree on either but might try something a bit more generic... picture below might better illustrate the motives of our time.
.... Liberals are elitists who think the average American citizen is part of the mindless "mob" as you say, and believe them too stupid to govern. Conservatives, on the other hand, see the average American citizen as "We The People" and angle their ideology toward preserving the rights and power of the people. I trust the American people with their money, their vote, and their vision for the American dream. I don't trust the government with our money, our votes, and our vision for the American dream. See the difference?
Interesting to me that each of us, in our little box, sees the rest of the folks like we think we are... unless they profess to be in the other little box... except for select acquaintances that aren't typical of the other little box (whatever that may be). This gentlemen (and ladies if present), is a form of stereotyping; judging a group by select members or judging individuals by the group they happen to belong to.Looking at an individual presents us with certain cues about them based on their behaviors and values. The tricky part is that values are 90% of what a person is about and they aren't readily visible... can't see thoughts or feelings. Behaviors on the other hand are in-your-face so to speak, but only make up 10% of ones personal culture.Doesn't matter what a politico (side of aisle be damned) says, how does he / she vote? I could go on with a long and boring story to illustrate the concept but.... 8)
... I don't think even Hitler would have broadcast his ultimate intentions until he reached the pinnacle of power, and even then, only to those close to him who could protect him from all accountability. He was a coward....
Indeed. Most people who voted for Obama may not have gone for Powell due to the military background and connection to the Bush admin. Bush needed to listen to Powell more.My step-dad was career Army and had come from a racialist background, leaqrning in the military that it is what the guys does that matters, not what color he's painted... he saw Powell as GI green.Powell and Obama are about as similar as the Army and ACORN. Nancy is a non-factor if Powell was Prez., or at least under control.
Race may be a biologically meaningless term, but sociologically and culturally it is used and abusedregularly. As my grandmother said to my sister " Get that dirty............. .off my porch.
... and the term will be misused and hang around as long as we allow it to be used without comment. I'm pretty sure I know what Granny said and that term (as abhorant as it may be) can be applied to an ethnic group; main point I've always tried to make to the kids (and others, for that matter)... is that hating someone is allowed (not prefered, but allowed) if you hate them for something that is within their control. Color of skin, type of hair, etc. aren't allowed... no one gets to file an app to be born into a certain ethnicity or nationality (or crosses thereof either). As I also told them I'd have asked to look like Tom Sellick rather than my avatar.
