Me too and while that may happen the main thing I see is a book like this getting lots of people to take an interest in history. Might be a stretch but I think lots of folks might look deeper into the field after a teaser like this one. It is to hope.

While I agree that many voters shouldn't be on the rolls, according to [url url=http://”http://www.barrypopik.com/index.php/new_york_city/entry/the_best_argument_against_democracy_is_a_five_minute_talk_with_the_average/”%5D The Big Apple [/url], the authenticity of the quote is open to dispute. Any ideas where / when he said it?

Do you buy this new theory about the people who worked on the pyramids?

Not so new; I used it in my history classes for at least 10 years.Logistics tell the story even without the historical evidence. If it takes 20,000 slaves 20 years to build a pyramids consider how many slave drivers you will need to keep tham in line… with only whips and such like 1 guard for a max of 5? Major waste of manpower for little return as the slaves might not be thrilled with the duty. The fact is these workers were on what amounted to a public works project; they were employed by the gov't when they weren't farming (also possibly to occupy excess workers) to the benefit of the Pharaoh. Made them special helping their God-King, plus got the whole family fed clothed and housed… think Boulder Dam project.

For those that get Bizarro in their newspaper: check the panel today (7-Jan-10) or wait about a month and check it on the Bizarro.com site (as they post a month behind)… it's spot on for this topic!Cheers,Wally

Hmmm… sounds familiar, sort of. Except not a real church but the religion of progressive socialism?

Just an opinion… little solid to base it on but Washington seemed to realize that we managed to get our freedom by playing those frequent controversies to our advantage, and needed to get our of the mix without becoming tied (politically) to any one country or block in Europe; rather to try to have commercial (albeit neutral) relationships with all but otherwise mind our own business. We had a bit of a problem with both our erstwhile friend, France, and our former adversary, the English… while that did eventually blow over and still later (post WWI) they both began to view us as, however grudgingly as, the ace-in-the-hole. We have thought of ourselves as the leveling influence and would like to think minding our own business will still work (at least until the bullets start to fly) but, sadly, the radical fundamentalists (all sides) don't go for that. Those folks will only allow their ideas and so even though we have sought to avoid implicating ourselves we are drawn into the mess.Add to the domesstic situation and Washington again looks brilliant for his admonition against political parties.

Missed one… :-[; had the wrong founder of the LA mission. Shows I spent more time on US history than CA… but that's okay as that was, after all, the mandate. That's my story and….Good game.

I think the biggest knock on a regular encyclopedia is that they aren't usually current enough (not to mention shallow compared to academic books) which is sort of the reverse of the knock on Wikipedia… too current (and perhaps embellished). My thought is that both are good for quick and dirty research… giving one direction and a starting point, nothing more.

I'm sorry that we as a society can't seem to avoid having to apologize.  :-[

My point was we as a society have to let them spout… by listen I didn't mean attentively. In fact the countering of the idiocy is paramount. The neo-Nazis in the US only get power if they are kept quite; letting them talk freely and then pointing out how foolish their drivel sounds is the key.
