There is a very good treatment to the GW / GC issue in SuperFreakanomics. Many of the problems could be dealt with for less than Gore et al spend to get folks stirred up.
The minority and diversity advocates have turned the idea of a rising tide raises all boats on its head, some boats should have lead weights because they are better boats anyway. Everybody should have the same boat. It is not equality of opportunity, it is equality of result regardless of the amount of effort one puts into things. The diversity crowd has invented rights out of whole cloth, health care, income, schooling, and housing are just some of them.
Agreed; we are promised equality of opportunity... the pursuit of happiness, not happiness itself... just the chance. Not good enough, go somewhere else.I'm all for Deglers salad bowl theory; keep some of your traditions to be comfortable here (they usually get assimilated along with you... like tacos, pizza, and liverwurst) and allow yourself to become an unhiphenated American. Living under our dressing... your Constitutionally protected and recognized civil rights and liberties.
Insanity is no defense, at least according to a former colleague; by most peoples definition one is crazy if the go about killing folks for whatever reason (conventional wisdom is that to take a life you need a very good reason). I think most folks have focused on the political, rather than the religious angle… otherwise I agree with you 100%.

I disagree on the first point but not the latter or the conclusion. Islamo-terrorists are the type that hate America and Americans for being different without malice; we really don't care if we are different (or they are) as long as we (and they are) allowed (life, liberty, etc., etc.) to be. They hate what we are and what we do and will until they can somehow force us back into the Middle Ages... the sandbox they profess to want to live in.Certain Democrats (those that seem to be in power or attempting to be) are Marxist-Leninist types that want to remake America. That is to say they want to play on the brand name of America but to redirect the business model; they want the world to think of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and the rest but at the nuts and bolts level to run on the Marx-Engles market plan.Currently am reading SuperFreakonomics and conclude that the current leadership does not understand the incentives that we (the people) really want; either they are ignorant, think we are, and either way (most likey) don't care.
I had used this for a starter in a history class; the thing that brought it to his attention was (I think) that a friend of his son was killed in one of those mishaps. Having ditched all the old files to clear space on the computer I can't tell you for sure…. 🙁
Politics aside; this is the army… on a base… one soldier kills other soldiers without orders or provocation… end of story. Bring on the firing squad.
